Description

Just bought a 4gb ram stick, so now I have 12gb of ram Hey everyone my name is Khyra and i'm a 12 year old girl! This is my first pc build! Before i built this pc I was gaming on a old laptop and it was to hard to play games because there was too much lag. So I decided to switch from a laptop to a pc. I'm very happy on how this turned out because now I can run games easily on 1080p. I mostly play Steam games, Sims, CSGO and Minecraft. I use this pc mostly for gaming and school work :D I'm going to be switching my motherboard in a year or two because I want to try and overclock but for now I'm good.

CPU: I choose this cpu because I do a lot of editing and recording, so I needed something strong for that. Also because I do lots of multitasking. I'm in love with this cpu and I would recommend this to anyone :D

CPU Cooler: Not going to be overclocking, good fan.

Motherboard: I'm not going to be overclocking so I went with a cheap motherboard that has everything I need.

Memory: 8 gb is going to be good for editing and rendering videos and also because it is blue.

SSD: I needed something that can boot up my computer fast and where I can put a couple of games. I should have went with a 240gb. But I am still very happy with this ssd.

HDD: Just need space to put all my recorded videos and when I need more space i'm going to be getting a 2tb hdd.

GPU: I was going to be getting a gtx 960 but I found a really good deal on this graphics card for only 170$.

Case: I really liked the look of this case and it was in my budget so I bought it. The only thing I didn't like about this case is that it was hard for nice cable management because there was no space in the back of the case.

Power supply: Originally I was going to get the EVGA non modular psu but I saw that this was modular and only for 5$ difference I got this.

Optical Drive: Got this for my dad because he loves burning cd's because his pc is too slow and still has windows vista xD

OS: Wanted to try out windows 10 and so far I love it :D

Case fans: Got these because the blue led's love them so far :D

Monitor: I got a 24inch 1080p HD LG Monitor from best buy for only 120! And I love it

Anyways thanks so much for reading this and I hope you guys enjoyed my first pc build! ( If you're wondering why I have a pink sata cable, it's because I ran out of sata cables so I went to ncix and the only sata cables they had were pink xD I'll be buying a black sata cable in the future.)

Should've gone with a 4460 and spent it on a better GPU. If you can still return ur CPU and GPU i would honestly suggest that. For the GPU you can go with a GTX 960 or better a R9 380 with a 4460 and youll run games like a bo$$!

I can't return it anymore wish I did that :/

If you have a mirco center (real store not online) near you, buy your cpu there. They have amazing deals

Unfortunately I don't have a micro center :(

Im gonna get a 4460/gtx 960 pair. Im prepping to rip COD ghosts to shreds

No offense but the motherboard option makes no sense. The 4690K is an unlocked cpu. You should only use it on a Z-series chipset (ex:z97). A B85 makes no sense what so ever. Everything else is great. BTW: I'm also a 12 year old, but I'm a boy

She might as well get a locked 4690 unless for some reason the k is cheaper

  • 1 point

As he said a B85 with a K series CPU is useless,

  • 1 point

I just found out that she is planning on upgrading here motherboard soon to a z97.

  • 1 point

Oh i see, would have been easier to get a z97 mobo from the get go but whatever floats her boat i guess.

  • 1 point

Getting a mew mobo would require re-installing windows.

I find that to be a hassle so i planned on getting a z97 first even with a locked intel (4460) so i dont need to reinstall windows if i get a k chip.

  • 3 points

Great! I really like the part choices overall, but with a b85, I would have gone with a 4460 or locked 4590. Otherwise it is very nice. What is the total wattage? I just am interested because you got a small PSU. Intel has low TDP so it should be fine though.

Going to be switching my motherboard in a year or two. I think it is 38.24, but i'm not to sure how to use the program that i'm using :/

A very common story around the internet, a laptop that can't run your favourite games. But it is true, I was also playing on a laptop before switching to a custom PC. There is nothing wrong with it being a common story, but your only 12. Wowzer, I didn't even realise custom PCs were really a thing when I was 12. This is a solid build and will be able to play now and future games at 1080p, but if you are so positive you don't want to OC what's with the "k" i5?

Anyway, great PC. Hope you enjoy it :D

  • 1 point

Because for no apparent reason, the 4690 is generally more expensive then the 4690k.

Oh yea, just noticed. What is with that? XD

Going to be switching my motherboar soon xD

It makes me really happy to see stereotypes being broken as the PC building community expands. Solid choice of parts, its really awesome that you have a good grasp on what hardware is good for certain uses at such a young age. I got interested in building PCs when I was about your age as well, and because I didn't really understand what hardware was good for what I didn't know where to start, which delayed the building of my first PC for a long time. Overall its awesome to see people that have advanced knowledge about computers at such a young age, and I hope to see more people in the future.

  • 1 point

Thanks :D

  • 1 point

yw :) Just really good to see more people interested in computers. Females in the PC building community are pretty scarce as well, mainly because of stereotyping and gender expectations, so its also awesome whenever I see more women building PCs, because as you probably noticed I want these kinds of stereotypes to be burned with fire.

well, Xeon is better for multitasking. like E3 1231 v3 or 1241 v3, coz it has 8 threads, i5 only 4. and Xeon walks perfectly with B85.

great build! The only criticism is that you could have gotten a 960 for like 5 more bucks :/

Other than that, congrats on your first PC! I'm 14 and haven't built mine yet, you got a head start :)

Yeah my brother said it would be impossible to build a PC but it was actually really fun!

That hilarious, how people tell you that you are too young to build a PC. This YouTuber taught his 5 year-old to build a PC https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sr3MgKkS314 (yes I know he told her exactly what to do, but the point is that he got his daughter started building PCs at 5.)

Good computer overall for a first build. I agree with HTTPRO on the GPU. Now a days you'll find that even the high-end GPUs that were a big deal a year ago are much cheaper. I have two computers built/being built and right now they are running R7 260X. Plays Battlefield 4 like a boss and runs even Total War series games at 4K. AMD GPUs are much cheaper for the power so I personally go with them anyday. Overall good job and good luck on any of your future builds :D

Great job and build! I built my first pc in october of 2014 right after I turned 11 (FX 8320E and R7 250), I am building my second pc this week or next week for my dad (i7 5820k and 980ti for $2500). That's 2 pcs in one year!

The only thing that could be wrong with this is the power supply. Why have a 430w ps when you have a gtx 950 and core i5. But then again you aren't overclocking and it's a modular power supply. Overall, very good job .

  • 1 point

Thanks :D

  • 1 point

You shouldn't need that much power for those steam games and other exceptions though. You could have save some money if you bought an i3 that could hyper thread. But then again you won't have to upgrade your CPU, GPU, or anything for awhile..... other than the motherboard of course. And you should upgrade to a MSI gaming, or a gigabyte, or even better ASUS.

I'm happy I got this pc because I'm going to be playing Star Wars battlefront now :D

Where did you install the 120mm case fans at? My friend has this case and swears there's not spot for them.

  • 1 point

I had to take out the fan that came with the case and I put only 1 fan in the front. I only used 1 fan and I kept the other one just in case. I tried taking out the hard drive bay but it was kind of impossible.

If you are going to be overclocking at all, then you need to replace that power supply. It's a crappy tier 4 unit. CX units also tend to die violent, fiery deaths occasionally and you don't want that to damage any of your other components. You should get something from tier 2 or 1. Great build otherwise!

  • 1 point

Please dont use tiers to classify PSUs, they are often false.

  • 1 point

Proof or it didn't happen. PSU's are placed into tiers based on quality of internal components and construction.

  • 1 point

What tier system are you using? Most tier lists are put togetjer by one person. There are lots of them. Some may be incorrect, or bias, or, one may actually be accurate and great. Im sure that one exists. What would the EVGA superNOVA G2 550 be placed on?it received a 10/10 on johnnyguru

  • 1 point

Nvm, screw it, use tiers if you want. Im deciding to back out on this one.

  • 1 point

I use the johnnyguru tier list. The G2 is a tier 1.

Well done....and very nice first build! Keep up the great work. Well thought out parts and good planning. I do like the case...has a nice rugged gamer look to it. Also just a bit of info. The 4690K does slightly outperform the 4690 locked version without overclocking. Plus it gives you the ability later to upgrade to a motherboard that enables overclocking. So the components allow you room to grow if you decide to kick things up a bit. I have been doing this for over 20 years and have to say that you did a great job!
