VOTED PCPARTPICKER BUILD OF THE MONTH
About the Build: At the start of the year I wanted to upgrade my old rig as it was... getting old and could barely run anything. So I ended up selling that and started working on the weekend and all holidays. I planned to get a Z97 motherboard, CPU and Ram, so I did.. until I realised that Skylake was out the next day. I replaced them for Z170 parts and paid a little extra just because I didn't want to buy something that would be considered "old-gen". That completely destroyed my colour-scheme though, since I was going to get the Sabertooth Mark S which has an all white look to go with my blue fans. I plan to use the PC for FSX, games ,video editing and rendering.
I then proceeded to actually build my first PC by myself and i'll be honest, I did not know how to do anything a few months ago. But thanks to this wonderful community here and other forums I was able to know basically everything. The procedure was fairly easy but took me 3 hours until I realised that my powersupply came DOA, got that replaced a week later and now works flawlessly ( :( honestly wanted to be the first to post here with a Z170 board.) After the build was completed I installed windows 10 in exactly 10 minutes which surprised me,I then went on and installed the latest drivers.
I first tried AI SUITES 3 as I've never overclocked before, It was ridiculous it took me to 4.9ghz at 1.52v. So I just went straight to the BIOS took it back to default watched a ton of OC'ing videos and learnt pretty quick.
Currently I am on a 4.5ghz on 1.3v 100% stable, kinda disappointing as I wanted to go to 4.7ghz because FSX again is CPU based.
I managed to OC to 4.6 @1.344v 12 hour stress test on Prime95. Max temp during test was 83°C and my idle is around 25°C.
My temps are really low because its currently winter in AU.
Cable management: "Dont worry I zip-tied it", no I didn't my zip ties have not come in yet but I am planning to work on my cable management
Overall thoughts: I couldn't be happier about my build and I do believe that my work payed off and I was able to award myself with such a high-end build, love the colour-scheme which I thought earlier wont go together. A BIG THANKS to everyone who is still here reading this, my parents for going multiple times to different stores to get me what I want and OF COURSE THANK YOU PCPARTPICKER Staff and Members!
The first i7 to be released on the Z170 chipset range works great, managed to overclock to 4.5ghz @1.3v 100% Stable.
Looks pretty slick with the braided hoses and love the RGB feature. Also it isn't that loud with the blue SP120'S that I put on.
This motherboard is all I can ask for, Looks awesome with the ROG logo RGB feature and performs well with an i7.
Very fast ram for a decent price, just remember to enable XMP in the BIOS to get the full 3200mhz.
9 SECOND BOOT TIME! Really fast SSD, 250GB for OS and frequently used games and programs.
Got 2TB and partitioned them in half, one for games and media the other for FSX addons. Work's great and it's really quite.
Very quite and is probably the best 1080p Nvidia graphics card out, had the money for a 980ti but I honestly don't need it as I will be using FSX most of the time which is a CPU based program. Tested on CS:GO and getting 300 fps on full setting. Will update fps of other games in the future.
The best case in my eyes, very appealing love the window makes me see what I have achieved and worked for throughout the year. Easy to install everything and has very good airflow, just wish It had a dust filter on top.
More than what I need, just got it for the platinum efficiency and because it's from corsair.
Got it because it was cheap and felt like I needed one. Does what it's meant to do.
Got 2 for the front and 1 for the back. Can run at basically any speed with Asus software. I turn them off when im just browsing or put them very low when I am watching a movie.
Got them cause they are blue, 2 for radiator and 1 for the bottom. Work great, easy to install (may require a little force).
With Cherry MX Brown I find them really good, braided cables are another great feature. 2X USB ports, just would've been better if it was USB 3.0.
Chose this because it's RGB and looks great, also has a high DPI.
