Description

My dream build rig. It does not take much to make me happy LOL. I went with the newest 6th gen i7 processor, hopping not to have to upgrade for at least two years. Paired with an ASUS MAXIMUS VIII Hero MB probably the best gaming MB for the money. For my CPU cooler ive always wanted to use liquid but never wanted to have to change the fluid. I went with 16 gigs of GSkills Ripjaws V Series DDR4 ram. For my HHD's i really did not care about looks or maker i just wanted a couple that i knew would do the job. i got one Toshiba and one PNY 240 GIG SSD's they are super fast like my wife says i am ( in the bed) JK! My video card is a BEAST literally its the MSI 980Ti its got a dragon on the back plate. I love my case The Cooler Master Master Case Pro ATX Mid Tower. Wow that's a lot to say. Is a very nice case fir the money. I was about to get a Corsair Obsidian 900 at 300 big ones. with the savings i was able to get a much better graphics card. The power unit is a bit of an over kill but i got a great deal on it. saved at least $70. i keep thinking its going to just stop or im going to have to put some quarters in it to make it work. The only other two peripherals worth mentioning are the 2K Asus PB258Q 25.0 monitor that makes everything look like your hovering over it and the Harmon/Kardon sound-sticks with the jelly fish sub woofer. not to loud but clean refreshing sound with great bass. It took about 7 hours to put everything together and another 7 just to get the Ethernet to work. If your going to get a Hero VIII Just remember you have to download intels router drivers.

PS Sorry about the towel under the build i rather you see that than scratch my table. LOL

Fixed!

Part Reviews

Nothing to say. Best Processor out!

CPU Cooler

working great and not as noisy as people say.

Motherboard

Great MB. You just have to go down the rabbit hole to make it work.

Storage

My windows boots up in 10 sec.

Case

Great Case So many Options. i could probably build another PC in there. wouldn't make it almost like a house with rooms.

Power Supply

More power than i know what to do with.

Case Fan

very quiet fans.

Monitor

Very nice display.

Keyboard

Greatest keyboard ever!!!!!

Mouse

Mouse Overkill!!! When the battery goes dead just connect the cord and keep it moving.

Headphones

You may have to wear earplugs to save your eardrums from the bass. Great headphones!

Speakers

Very nice sound. i wish on and off switch were on the mid speakers instead of the subwoofer.

Wohoo first person on here with the Cooler Master MasterCase Pro 5

Sweet build to, although i think the graphics card should be on the top slot

Does it matter which one its in? I just put it there cause i didnt want it riding against some cables.

Nice build. Those are some nice specs. And for slot that should be use for the gpu, on this mobo, the slot on top is x16 and the one you're in is x8. I doubt it would make a big difference but you could test to see if it has an impact on perfomance or just leave it like that...

Anyway you stil have a +1 from me

Y E S. The first slot is always the fastest. Check with your manual, you can confirm this.

Not ALWAYS the fastest. Quite a few boards will run any of the slots or at least the upper two at x16 provided you're only using one card and you tell it to do so in the BIOS. Although as a general rule you do have a point

Yes because the top slot is 16x, much faster that way. Also it doesn't look like it would be and worst case, what I would to is clean up the cables.

I have used tons of those Toshiba drives. They are a hidden gem for sure.

yes it is for air flow!

I assume the fan is facing downwards as well it can't face up or else it would most likely suffocate since the sectional thing is there. There are vents on the bottom so the psu is fine

See. This is like my rig. The ridiculous part may be my age. How old are you?

Hey there. You have a very impressive PC. I have a question about the monitor though. Do you notice any sort of lag or delay between the time you move your mouse to the time the image pops up on the screen? Thanks

  • 1 point

Not any noticeable lag. And thanks for complimenting on my PC.

Nice build! I've heard numerous reports of Asus Hero board failing for the skylake iteration. Have you encountered any buggy scenario? (not turning on, shutting off randomly, OC errors

  • 1 point

yeah some. Its hard for me to access my Bios sometimes. Also my mouse will stop working sometimes when i hook up other USB devices. but other than that this thing is a beast. i love it so much power and speed. i cant even find anything that will push the graphics card to the limit. Well Star Wars battlefront almost did.

K thx! do you overclock? if so is the experience nice? :)

im overclocked at 9% right now. i dont like to mess with the bios to much so im going to just leave it there. Its plenty fast without it though.

Love the build, +1

Actually almost part for part with the build I should be doing soon, but I'll be using the STRIX OC 1080 8g and the Maximus hero from asus

How come the gpu isn't on the top slot? It's faster that way?

Hey I am thinking about getting that mouse after using it in a store. It felt amazing! The thing is I see a lot of mixed reviews of it online about it breaking after a few months. Seeing that you made this build a few years ago, I was wondering how the mouse is holding up.
