Wow...RAM COOLERS? I guess that's needed since they are clocked highly and are packed like sardines...Don't need to be shy for watching anime BTW! Anyways +1 sobs in the corner with his R9 270 and a Rainbow Dash plushie because everyone's getting 970s and suddenly I feel left out again...

It looks so friggin cool...literally...I mean look at my build and you see your usual green RAM PCB with the modules fully exposed which is sad looking :P

hey, as long as it does what u want it to do. ive just set the goal to get it in 2 months, and achieved it. usually every 2 years id go out and shop for new systems (part by part) buying average stuff. this time wanted to cap it, as my new goal is the Evo. had it back in 2010, missed it much, time to get it back :D

Really nice build. Only thing, you say future proofing for the psu but I say not optimal decision. Since their release the 900 series gpus have been known for low power consumption. Even 850 watt would of been future proofing and you would of been able to have better hard drive likes wd blacks. But Aside from that little criticism, gotta give you that +1

  • 1 point

ye that PSU was initially meant for titans black, but decided to go for 780TIs then in SLI. Then 980 came so i got it mainly cause of 3rd gen delta color compression, VXGI, DSR, MFAA, and the VR(gotta love that oculus)

Can I have a 780 Ti???

Super late to see this but gotta ask-why 2 and not 1 500gb? You have one for only the OS? How come?

  • 1 point

Dont worry about late, im not one of those idiots that hate it when u revive a thread from death. always glad to head questions/changes id to and stuff from all this time that passed. i just wish there was a way to edit the build so i can have it updated to the latest i have it at.

I had it in RAID 0 at 1st on the 250gbs before, that was the main reason, and multiple pc options in case u update., then later became steam library ONLY on it. u can always use the 2nd drive on another machine, not if u have 1 500gb ;)

At the time 840evo 250's were the best bang for the buck quality ssd's. I got the system setup with 1tb 850 pro now, so everything fits on one with the OS on it as well. I still think its better/faster when steam was on a separate drive than like now on the 1tb with the os on it as well, i might change it back to OS on the 250 and Steam library on the 1tb, i had issue with TF2 playing music over mic feature, and it had to be on the C drive(os drive) which is why i put everything on the 1tb.

Use one of the 840evo 250gb for system snapshot and video recording(bandicam, premiere pro edits - as a temp buffer drive )stuff, the other is in my gaming laptop for lan parties :)

1Tb green strictly music archive.

3TB (st3000dm001-9yn1) for random non organized crap to be organized.

500gb 10k raptor (wd5000hhtz-04n21) for organized drive, like programs with programs, pdfs with pdfs, google drive, pc drivers.

Second reason was if i upgrade to different drive, usually u end up not needing more than 128gb so 250 was plenty for half a month trips, etc.

sorry if some stuff above was kinda not making sense or something, 4:30am sleepy and tired, wanted to check email before i hit the sack. have to work on my evo in the morning

This build is ******* badass dude

  • 2 points

Very nice build. I think you over did it on the RAM, but it's your nickle. That case should have plenty of room. You should try and pull some of those cables behind the motherboard tray.

  • 1 point

RAMdisk thats the only reason i got. you dont wanna see what it looks like behind there LOL trust me heheh

  • 1 point

Cool build, but just saying, please do something other than play mine craft with that graphics card. Not that mine craft is bad, I actually like it but you could play it fine with the integrated graphics on your cpu. That is, unless your downloading tons of mods.

It's not an FX series CPU though...

  • 1 point

Lol, this comment thread is so strange,

1) It is a Devils Canyon i7, NOT a FX, and they included iGPUs.

2) No one is the right mind would buy a 980 for vanilla minecraft

3) Not even "tons of mods" take up anything close to a 980's potential.

:)

  • 2 points

exactly my saying, the ram as RAMDISK is the only reason i got 32gb. I edit Adobe Premiere and occasionaly photoshop, so its a great rig + with the ability to sli in future is also a plus

  • 1 point

Good point, it won't even reach 970 potential (I think). If it was a xeon or fx, this thread would be different. Actually, I just corrected myself, some xeons have iGPUs. (Why Intel and AMD and nvidia do you have to make part shopping so hard!)

GPU should be in the top slot for best airflow

  • 1 point

its optional. but, gpu was put in this way cuzz of ram cooler

  • 1 point

Ok. The GPU is also only running in x8 in that sLot.

  • 1 point

WOW, thats for the heads up, didnt realize it cuzz i assumed it was only x8 in SLI mode because feature said that it auto selects. I went to check manual and you are correct my friend :D thanks. pics below are from that it said auto, and diagram what actually is x8 and x16. THANKS AGAIN :) i appreciate it.

Green drives were a mistake. They barely save any power and have much higher failure rates. Other than that, fantastic build.

  • 2 points

look at the date on the greens ;) ran tests with HD Tune without errors, been running them in netgear nas in raid 1. it was a price factor that i was lured for heheh

Hello ol sexy snow white. Did you change out the fans on the case?

  • 1 point

ello ello :D

did not change out the fans, took only the top one out to install radiator.

I like the case fans there pretty good :D I updated the pictures, last one showing average temps when not playing games and pc ON for about 3 hours(i know it shows uptime of 1.33hours) to watch videos online with 6 tabs open and some minor file transfers and around 60gb of steam installation :D

maaaaan awesome build!!!! i heard about a lot of difficulties installing the h100i liquid cooler into the case.... any troubles installing it ? just curious cause im getting the same case and cooler for my build

Do it in the way i did it and youll make it work :)

hahaha awesome, definitely will use your build as reference when i build mine

  • 1 point

my recommendation is dont get the NZXT fan controller and get a lower wattage PSU, ram u dont even need 16gb. other than that its an awesome build the PSU if SUPER overkill cuzz now a days stuff uses less and less power

  • 1 point

Does tge NZXT fan controller also control the fan lights, or do you use the stock case button for that?

Did you exchange the H100i fans with the case fans in that location, or just use the H100i as-is? (Or mount it under the case fans?)

  • 1 point

i use case controls, u can make it work the way u said but ull have to cut individual fan controller wires to do that, i got tired of lights the 1st hour i had it working. lights are more of a gimmick or a showcase lol
