Description

Hey everyone. I'm a first-time PC builder and I thought this would be a nice upgrade from my old laptop and to accompany my plans to ditch consoles. So far it's been working great. I can run games at good settings and framerates. Not the biggest video editor though.

Also, I'm really sorry about how the images are rotated. I tried fixing it but when I uploaded it it just went back to normal. My apologies! I suppose you'll have to turn your head a bit to see.

And now for those benchmarks... They're all in 1080p, of course. These are just the games that I play.

Grand Theft Auto V: "Very High" No AA. -Overall I'm satisfied with the performance. When I'm not doing much, it stays above 60. When I'm driving, it dips to the 50's and 40's. This sometimes happens with intense shootouts too.

Counter-Strike: Global Offensive: Maxed. 4x AA. -Runs over 130 no matter what, and even though I don't have a 144hz monitor, I'm happy with the outcome.

Minecraft Sonic Ether Ultra Motion Blur Shader: Fancy. Smooth Lighting Maximum 100% -Runs over 50 all the time, which is good. This shader looks AMAZING. Spices up the game a lot.

League of Legends. Maxed. AA. Locked 60FPS no matter what. Not surprised.

Left 4 Dead 2: Maxed 4x AA. Locked 60FPS like LoL. Not surprised once again. This game is pretty old and runs on Source.

In conclusion....

I'm really glad to be a part of the great PC community. I'm not completely leaving consoles forever, but I fell in love with PC gaming, and the whole thing with PC building and the community is just mindblowing.

Not a perfect build, but I'm proud of it.

Part Reviews

CPU

Packs a real punch. Don't underestimate the Dual-Core! Working fine for me, and runs games great, but I'll probably upgrade to an i5-4460 later.

Motherboard

-Not DOA -No USB 3.0 header -It works

Memory

It's RAM. DDR3. 1600. It works. Yup that's about it!

Storage

It's a 1TB HDD and it's perfectly fine. No room for an SSD in my budget, but that's OK. Anyways, this guy gets the job done.

Video Card

Let me start off by saying that I overpayed for this. I paid 170$. And as of 3/20/16 it's on sale (including rebate) for 125 DOLLARS WHAT. That's an absolute steal.

This card is PERFECT for what I play, and I'm loving it. Kicks *** but honestly it doesn't look that great, but I can get past that. Temps are good too. Overall I'd recommend this card for anyone that wants a GeForce brand GPU. Although, if you want to spend 170 for a 950, you might as well spend some extra dough on an R9 380.

Case

No cable management options. Or hard drive cages. Honestly I don't like it all that much.

Power Supply

500W was plenty of juice for my system, and I've been having no issues. Not modular, but this is a more low-end unit. Sooo.... yeah.

Keyboard

It's a membrane keyboard. Cheap. Works. Not complaining.

Mouse

For a budget mouse this ain't all that bad. It's just a placeholder for something a bit better for now, but this is a nice value!

Good job. Enjoy your gamer machine.

Now, why did you let me do your cable management? You know I suck at it.

Welcome! Im also getting into the pc gaming community for around the 5th time haha. Havent been a pc gamer in about 4 years now. How well does this build run The Witcher or The Division, if you've tried them yet that is. I don't know if I'm willing to spend 1.2k on a pc build just yet to run max :'(

Call me crazy but I don't have either of those games yet! I'm sure someone on Youtube benchmarked the games though!

Thanks for your kind compliment.

Nice build, I plan on buying the same graphics card, what's the fps in LoL without capping fps? Can it keep stable 120-140 no matter what? Have you tried gta v on a bit lower settings? What's the fps? Also photos, please rotate them haha.

I haven't tested LoL without the locked framerate, but I have tried locking it at 144 and it worked like a charm.

Lol. I will if my phone wants to co-operate with me.

I'll check GTA V with lowered settings and will get back to you in a bit!

Well, my 3 years old laptop can't achieve more than 30fps during teamfights using lowest possible settings.

its because you are probably using intel hd graphics, or amd equivalent and if you look up the benchmarks for them they fair horribly.

GTX 950 will crush those games, but if you want to save some $$$ definitely wait for Pascal!
