Replaced w/Janus 2.0 here http://pcpartpicker.com/b/XtM8TW

As this was the end of my father and the beginning of my new life running his company I decided to name this Project Janus. A Tattoo of mine now marks the occasion. As always I love and miss you Dad...

I kept very few items of my original design and also decided on an aesthetic upgrade as well. You be the judge of my accomplishment in that area.

First addition was even more fans and controllers (5 Controllers and 32 fans total). Next was a second and third disc drive to speed up my disc ripping ????. To do both of these required another case. So while I was at it I added another radiator. How to power such a monster ????? Well, how about a second PSU? 2500W Here we go... Let's speed it up a bit 4.6Ghz 5960X anyone? Man 1440p surround is rough on the VRAM. Should upgrade the cards too. Hrm 4XTitan X Hydro Copper SLI With 48GB VRAM aught to cover it. All this water I might as well cool the VRM/Board. Check???? Okay... Several K extra and I've built a Super Computer worthy of the name...

Heat... This now has 3 Radiators because the 5960x is a fire cracker in both speed and heat. Ripping movies has never been so fast but good god it runs 15-20c hotter than the 5930k w/less voltage. So the extra radiator and motherboard cooler were essential. I run Firestrike Tests at 4.6 but usually keep it clocked at 4.5 to prevent degradation from heat. You don't build something this expensive and not try to make it last. The Titan X's are really cool. They don't break 55c ever. Probably because I didn't mod the PCB and the highest Voltage I get is 1.275. I'm happy to be on the Firestrike leaderboard but I don't need in the top ten just to burn out thousands of dollars in hardware (I'm unsponsored). Speaking of heat, before anyone asks, I connected the cases w/industrial strength Velcro. It seems laughable but the need to be separable w/o much difficulty and they need to be air tight. It actually works quite well. I did have to mod both cases a fair bit to make everything line up well. If I were to do it all over again I might go w/900d's like most everyone else but I really like the look of these cases. I don't see or have yet to see any 900d's in white.

It's over 9000! haha. Nice build man. I'd be curious to know what your frame rates with triple 1440p is on Assetto Corsa, if you have it . :D I am also enjoying the tidy cable management. Thanks for sharing.

I'm pretty sure that even the 5960X isn't quit able to keep up with the Titans. If you've ever watched JayzTwoCents, He has a rig very much like this one but he ended up taking the 4th Titan X out because it wasn't performing any better than 3 but was still just adding heat to the loop. So believe it or not, the 5960X is the bottleneck in this build. Although, it doesn't matter at all lol. Still gonna run ultra 100+ fps on anything. Also, I'm curious about Fallout 4 FPS. Any word on if that could happen?

  • 2 points

It can't because the game creators in all their wisdom decided not to make the game work with SLI. For that matter neither did the monkeys that made Assassin's Creed Syndicate or Arkham Knights... It's sad that the creators of modern titles only want to make console games they can port.

  • 1 point

I understand man. I don't have any kind of SLI going on or anything but I do have a 21:9 monitor and let me tell you, they sure don't think scaling is important at bethesda. I had to tweak fallout 4 for almost 2 hours after I got it just so it would run at native res. Otherwise it was just a little box in the middle of my monitor with weird resolutions and stuff like that. They really don't care much about PC optimization anymore.

  • 1 point

Good thing for Moba's eh? They're a huge population on PC. Pc is amazing. Only if more people had the knowledge and will to build a pc, even a budget 300 dollar pc would do. A majority of games support controllers especially the xboxone version. The only legitimate excuse I can believe is, it's the community. The console has a wider fan base whether it be Microsoft or Sony. Oddly enough microsoft is pc so there is a lot of driver support. Sony, is the only one to begin cross platform, Rocket league supports it as well as ff14 online. I found a post about blizzards new game Overwatch. It's quite the topic. haha

What did you use to paint the ROG SLI bridge? I'm looking at getting one myself but have been thinking about ways to best change the logo from red to green. I had settled on using some vinyl with adhesive on the back to fill it in, but I like the way yours came out.

and yet i have a fealing it can still lag out on bloon tower defense 3 on multiplayer lol no but seriously if it did id be afraid, anyways normally this is where id say all sorts of changes and how you could have saved money doing this or that but beings you seem to just have a money tree in your back yard all imma say is OMG how did you max out all the cores? to me this seems a bit excessive but if your multi tasking a **** ton of things wile rendering a home made movie you made up digitally and playing crisis on 4k ultra settings and wanting to do a few other things well i suppose you may need this rig other then that this is WAY above what anyone should ever need

  • 2 points

You would think but omg no. I usually only get about 50-70fps maxed on modern games. Then again I use game settings that no one ever touches. I go to "ultra" then I move everything else all the way over as well.

  • 1 point

ah so your like my buddie but his rig is FAR cheaper, so far i think their has only been 2 games he cant completely max out like that or it screws with his frames too badly

  • 2 points
  1. Why that many fans?
  2. How'd u get the money?
  • 1 point

Fans I think is simply for overclocking and heat dissipation. The longevity increases as heat decreases (to a point). So, I just put an inordinate amount in and a lot of radiators. Even as is I still get the CPU to 70's in well optimized games. The money came with time, I have been buying/selling/upgrading for 6 years until this point. I didn't get it over night.

have u not seen linus video about that if you add more gpus it doesnt add more vram oh btw i have nothing to say about this build... its just mindblowing

  • 1 point

Yes it does not add more VRAM on DX11 Systems using alternate frame rendering. DX12 Games have the ability to use VRAM separately based on the needs of the section of the screen they are covering. No game to date does this but they will quite regularly in the future. Also, this build is going to be replaced in a week or so with what is essentially the same hardware aside from aesthetics. I built a case from the ground up, including lighting. Have hard tubing this time and 2 cooling loops.

Tfw your cpu costs $100 more than my build.

  • 1 point

You don't have 48gb of vram... Only 12. SLI doesn't add vram, only uses whatever the single card comes with.

  • 2 points

Do you understand the concept of AFR? One card at a time? No you don't have 48, you have four cards with 12. Now, that's only on DX11. On DX12 based it's set to whatever portion of the screen each card covers so it sort of stacks. It's easier to say 48 then to type out a big long explanation like this.

Oh my bad. Didn't realize the DX 12 has changed it up. :)

  • 1 point

Mmm, it's a monster though. I think I really want more DX12 titles to even the CPU overhead out and not Bottleneck the cards.

  • 1 point

Where do you even put that many fans? How do you even have enough fan headers and fan controllers?

  • 1 point

Most of them run off of http://www.amazon.com/Swiftech-8W-PWM-SPL-ST-Way-PWM-Splitter-Sata/dp/B00IF6R4C8/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1449288922&sr=8-6&keywords=motherboard+fan+splitter

Also, I have 2 full towers and in some places 3 way push pull (on each side of the radiator) which means on a normal radiator w/3 fans I have 12-18.

  • 1 point

Okay, I just can't imagine screwing in over 30 fans. I need one of those splitters though, I'm running some off molex. My PSU only has space for 3 sata cables.

  • 1 point

The SATA/Molex ones are not bad but they kill your cable management.

Just a crazy though, you should buy 3 28" 4K 2ms monitors and place them abov your 144hz monitors. 144hz for competitive games. 4k for single player games.

Awesome Build! :D but... can it run space invaders? :P

  • 1 point

Two things I'm really confused about. 1. The case has four 5.25" bays, how do you have three optical drives and three fan controllers? 2. Why did you paint the motherboard red? IMO White would've worked better. Still ******* badass though, and I'm sorry about your father.

I painted it white not read and I have 2 of the same case melded into one. And thanks!

How is the refresh rate on that touch screen monitor? I'm looking at building a new rig for game development, YouTube, and live streaming. I was planning on using a touch screen monitor to keep an eye on my chat and manage my iTunes music, along with maybe a few more things.

  • 1 point

It's pretty good BUT, a touch screen monitor has to be the primary monitor for touch to work. A GSync Monitor must be the primary monitor to work. So, as you'll see in my Current build (Link: http://nz.pcpartpicker.com/b/XtM8TW ) I took out the touch screen.

  • 2 points

Yeah, I'm personally noticing that I haven't been using the touch screen as much as I thought I would. I might just stick with the 2 4k monitors and invest in something like a drawing pad instead.

  • 1 point

Wow, that's a lot of Case Fans Also, how do Fan Controllers work?

This was a year ago... Why do people not get that? And there are some 4Way 1080 scores on Firestrike Ultra. My score is higher.

Ermahgerd Sorry I thought it was a recent build xD

Yeah the 1080s still need configuring and optimizing for sli.

Wouldn't you need a more powerful power supply to run all 4 of those Titans?

I used 2 PSU's in my next build. 1 x 1500 for 2 cards and CPU, 1 X 1000 for 2 Cards and some fans.

Not true actually, these tests are done based on standard settings. They do not factor in VRAM or the game's CPU separation. If a game can spread the load onto all Cores of a CPU the Titan X wrecks... I can play Battlefront on 3X4k monitors with maxed settings because of it's CPU spread. And regardless of the ****** lack of a storyline and online only play that is not for everyone the engine for that game is the Future of gaming. As DX12 becomes main stream and people wan't the VRAM more and more it wrecks Kingpins all day every day... But, if you don't believe me my cousin has the exact setup you speak of and I can go maxed settings on every game but he cannot... sooo...

Oh you shouldn't allow Ram to become VRAM... And yeah people love the TI but the Pipe of the Titan X and the VRAM really make it versatile. It's the only card capable of 4K Surround (been playing 4k Surround on Battlefront) and dear god it's amazing...

Also, at MAX settings VRAM in 4K surround on the one and only DX12 game is only 7GB

Go for it, honestly swapping to 2 Way 1080ti's soon so it's meh. Hopping out of the Benchmarking scene and just gaming.
