Description

I Built this pc because i had a Motherboard And CPU.

I later found the case with the two fans in a closet, and decided to use it. It only had two motherboard standoffs, so i used them in the two seperate corners of the mobo and used some rubber things and placed them around the motherboard (in the back) - its gruesome but it works - and Remember:

The cheapest i could build.

The only standoffs i could find where in a pack which cost about 6 Pounds (GBP), and that was too much for my budget. The Aerocool Fan (Used as an intake at the back, the case only supports two fans) was held in by zipties.

The Parts:

GPU: I found the gpu (a similar one, not this one exactly) whilst browsing ebay for the cheapest gpu i could find.

PSU: I found the Powersupply - An Antec Earthwatts 380w 80+ (the same as listed, just lower rated and not green)- for 5 Pounds (GBP) at a car-Boot sale (if you dont know what that is, just look it up).

RAM: I found the RAM - One stick of 2gb ddr3 Kingston ram- for 3 Pounds (GBP) at the same car-Boot sale as the PSU (lucky day!)

HDD: I sourced the 80gb HDD (Not this one excactly, but basically the same specs) from an early 2000's E-Machines laptop.

CPU: I had this cpu from when i was finding a problem with my pc, and ended up only using it once, although i paid 10 Pounds (GBP) for it.

MOTHERBOARD: A family friend was getting rid of some old pc parts, and kindly donated this motherboard to me.

CPU Cooler: I found this cooler in the attic with the case, the backplate is only attached with 3 screws but it seems to be attached fine.

CASE: This case is a complete Joke. I bought it for another build (this is why i didn't include it in the price) only to find out it was incompatible with my gpu. I threw (almost literally) the case into my attic and forgot about it until now. Its Ugly, Has no Cable Managment, is flimsy as all hell and is a nightmare to work in. Fortunately it is no longer available so nobody will make the mistake of buying it.

Thermal Paste: I found this from when i was building my normal pc, it was half empty (i dont know what i used that paste on, but oh well), so i didn't include the ever so expensive 2 Pounds in the price.

Part Reviews

CPU

A decent CPU, definitely gets quite hot, really cheap tho (about 10 Pounds of ebay if you are lucky).

Motherboard

Its an Ok am3 board, has a lot of sata ports, 3 usb 2 connectors on it, etc. It works, and the bios is OK.

Memory

Its Cheap And It Works, nothing else to it.

Storage

Its Slow, It has low capacity, but it works.

Video Card

Its Definetely not great anymore, but its definitely enough just to display something on a monitor.

Power Supply

Its A powersupply that works.

Case Fan

Its Quite Loud, but it pushes air and as a bonus has a red light.

Case Fan

Its quiet Enough and it pushes air quite well.

No doubt this is the cheapest build I have seen so far. Not all builds need to have high end parts, builds like these prove people of all ages and income can express their creativity. The price is the big winner here. +1

Thanks! It was quite the challenge, but i feel i cheated slightly as i didn't pay for all the parts (primarily the motherboard).

Nice scrap build!

I would swap the direction of your rear fan to be exhaust though. Right now it is bringing air into the case from the back.

Thanks!

I did this on purpose, as the case only has space for two fans.

Thanks for the In Depth Reply! I might visit some more flea markets in the next couple of weeks, and i'll hopefully find some more cheap components. The zip Tie fan seems to be holding on fine, and i used a saw to cut out peices of the side panel to fit on (hence the ruined paint). Unfortunately the case doesnt support any sort of cable managment - there is no space at all at the back (the side panel is touching the back of the motherboard mount. Im also not worried about shorting out the Motherboard as i have a layer of duct tape behind it. Im Glad you Like it!
