Description

CPU The core i3 works great for what i'm using it for (light gaming) and i didn't have any problems at all. it stays very cool

MOTHERBOARD Honestly just picked up the cheapest board from memory express. so far no problems. only complaint would be that you only have one fan header for your fan but you buy what you pay for.

MEMORY I just got the cheapest ram that memory express had in stock, nothing special just ram. so far no problems.

VIDEO CARD I am borrowing this from a friend. later i'm gonna upgrade to an rx 580. only complaint is that it gets very hot under load and it starts to thermal throttle.

CASE I just needed something that would hold pc parts. The case is really bad. The bottom pads fall off IMMEDIATELY after opening the box. This case is VERY cramped inside. on the bright side it did come with two fans, one of which was molex. Other than that, case was great.

PSU Again just got the cheapest one i could find on amazon. no problems, it supplies power. One thing i do want to say tho it that the fan is very quit.

OVERALL This build was just meant to get me into the pcmr, i wanted to stop gaming on my "crap-top" (get it) i was struggling a good 20-30 fps on every not very demanding game. (minecraft, terraria, roblox, overwatch) I am overall very excited to own this pc and im looking forward to my next upgrade come christmas. (laptop processor specs https://ark.intel.com/products/71142/Intel-Pentium-Processor-2020M-2M-Cache-2-40-GHz-?q=2020m )

EDIT I didnt get the rx 580 i was hoping for but i did get an rx570 and its been serving me great. my 500 dollar build somehow conspired to about 1000 dollars which is kinda crazy. i got the air 240 for Christmas and i bought all the new stuff with christmas money

Sorry my pictures are blurry

Just trying to imagine a persons reaction in 2016 if you told them intel would be selling quad core 3.6Ghz CPUs for 120 USD

MineMineMelon 10 Builds 1 point 2 months ago

Or if you told them that the Ryzen 7 1700X could be found for $130 on sale

tharsisnk 3 points 2 months ago

Nice build! People are sleeping on that i3 8100, I can play Rainbow Six Siege at like 120 fps on high settings lol

TotalInsanity4 1 point 2 months ago

It's because you can buy a 2200G for $95 and matches (and even beats) the i3 when overclocked

FiveSquared25 1 point 2 months ago

But I hate overlcocking but AMD has better upgrade path to 1700x

tharsisnk 1 point 2 months ago

Really? I doubt it, especially with Ryzen's abysmal IPC

TotalInsanity4 1 point 2 months ago

Yeah, really. I know that Userbenchmark isn't the end-all be-all benchmark by any means, but it is pretty illustrative of my point: https://cpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/AMD-Ryzen-3-2200G-vs-Intel-Core-i3-8100/m441832vs3942

tharsisnk 1 point 2 months ago

They're virtually the same performance-wise, but the i3 8100 still pulls ahead w/o any overclocking because they have a faster IPC

TotalInsanity4 1 point 2 months ago

Which is... what... I said?... At stock they trade blows, but the R3 is cheaper AND overclockable, which allows it to edge ahead of the i3 even in single-threaded workloads

Issacsweg 2 points 2 months ago

Shoot my bad i thought you had a rx 570 in the system no a gtx 570. Still a great build though never the less +1

CamManCraft 1 point 2 months ago

Cool build. Looks nice and is a great price. Seems good for the light gaming you plan on doing. Pretty good components and is worth the price for them. Nice job!

Issacsweg 1 point 2 months ago

I'm speculating you followed the build guide.

You should get a fan hub and connect it to your cpu fan slot, then you can plug in like 4 fans and a cpu fan, it’s only like 7 bucks and you can use like 4 more fans!

Keir_C_Yurkiw submitter 1 Build 1 point 2 months ago

My case only supports two fans. When its Christmas ima be upgrading to an air 240 and I'll have 8 fans

DJ2019 1 Build 1 point 2 months ago

Do you do other things besides gaming? I am the only other one on PCPartpicker who used this mobo but it's for an I5 build

Keir_C_Yurkiw submitter 1 Build 1 point 2 months ago

Other than gaming I do homework and search the web, I'm not a power user

DJ2019 1 Build 1 point 2 months ago

Ok. I do similar but

  1. I play more big games than you

  2. I was upgrading from an I7 2600k. I did think about the I3 and while it's made great strides, that 8100 wasn't gonna beat an I7 2600k.

Does your case have room for a bigger GPU than what you'd get for a 580? If there's a way you can use a ebay or trade I might want you to have my current card if I upgrade mine for Christmas. As you can see from my build I upgraded to a 1440p monitor

he says he's upgrading to a rx 580 later so it wouldn't matter.
