Description
I decided to upgrade from my Asus Rog laptop that had an Intel i5 3230m and a gtx 660m. I decided to do the upgrade so that I can play Overwatch, Paragon, and Doom when they come out at 1080p 60fps. I don't plan on upgrading again until the beginning of next year so this should hold me until then.
AMD X4 860K I got this processor for it's price to performance ratio. I got the Cryorig H7 and have it overclocked to 4.3Ghz at 1.4 volts (the asrock atuning reads it wrong}. The H7 keeps the cpu over 25c on the thermal margin on AMD OverDrive under full load of prime95.
ASRock A88M-G/3.1 Awesome motherboard for the price. Has 4+2 phase vrm under a nice little heat sink for overclocking. Usb 3.1 type c (which I don't need yet). My HyperX Fury was on sale and its running at 1866Mhz. My only complaints about the board is that it could use another case fan header and one less cpu fan header. The usb ports above the ps/2 port were also kind of stiff at first.
Storage I bought the SSD on Black Friday from Amazon. I used it in my laptop for a while with an external HDD. The WD Blue I got out of an old pc that my aunt gave me.
R9 380 I bought the Sapphire R9 380 4GB on sale from Newegg for $170. I couldn't pass that up. Maxes out most games and handles Fallout 4 with grass and leaves on trees mods like a champ.
Case and Power Supply I bought the case because I liked the form factor and the ease of building in it. My $45 550W non-modular psu fits like a glove with the confusing psu case bracket and the cables were easy the manage and hide. The massive front intake coupled with my corsair 120mms for exhaust and dust filters everywhere is awesome. The cons for this case are the poorly written manual and having the motherboard in vertical mode seemed like and afterthought with the missing dustfilter intended to be a passive exhaust on the bottom of the case now.
Peripherals The monitor I got on sale from NCIX after I broke part of the monitor on my laptop. Its only got 10ms of input lag according to displaylag.com. The Wifi Adapter is temporary but has a lot of good reviews and works fine for me. My mouse and headphones are awesome and I soldered the Gaote Browns into my keyboard myself. It origionally had outemu blues.
Part Reviews
CPU
Good Bang for the buck. Got mine OC'd to 4.3Ghz on 1.4 volts with a Cryorig H7.
Motherboard
Has almost everything that I need. Great overclocking features for the price. I only wish that it had 3 case fan headers instead of 2 case fan and 2 cpu fan headers.
Storage
Windows 10 boots in like 10 seconds with this thing.
Video Card
Able to max out a lot of games at 1080p and still achieve good frame rates. The 4gb frame buffer helps on some games with high resolution textures.
Case
I really like this case. It was a little bigger than I thought it'd be but that is ok. The case is very easy to work in and is really good with air cooling. My only complaints are the horrible instructions and the psu bracket is a pain to install.
Wireless Network Adapter
Has worked perfectly for me.
