Description

Workstation for programming and gaming, to replace my Q6600 which is now the home media server.

Updated the BIOS to F6 first thing after Windows installed. Got 2933Mhz after BIOS update on RAM and overclocked CPU to 3.7GHz very comfortably.

All i'm missing is a better desk, will update after getting one with monitor pics.

Edit: Some gaming benchmarks:

Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare

Graphics: Ultra
Average FPS: 60 (V-Sync On)
Did not even stutter once, also a nice campaign.

Part Reviews

CPU

Best bang for you buck workstation CPU at the moment. Easily overclocked to 3.7Ghz (65C on load) and can probably go much further but i don't need to right now. Everything running smooth and fast on this thing!

Motherboard

Really wanted to go with an ASUS motherboard, but after reading reviews was convinced to buy this. Came with F5 BIOS which ran my RAM at a lower speed. Flashed it with F6 and everything is working perfectly!

Memory

Great looking RAM with nice speed and latency for my Ryzen. Anything higher and prices go too crazy.

Storage

Wanted to try the M.2 SSDs. Extremely fast booting OS and some (read-heavy) games, with room for many programs.

Storage

Working fine for now.

Video Card

Perfect price and performance for 1080p 60fps gaming ! Too bad you can't get them anymore (at least for this price).

Case

Great looking case with really good cable management. The airflow is really good even though the intake at the front looks blocked. Best to get a front intake fan.

Case Fan

Really quite quiet. Surprisingly moves quite a lot of air in/out, even if case has a small buffer for intake. Frosted blades look even more amazing with RGB of my motherboard and RAM (on my top exhaust), it's as if i got an RGB LED fan.

Monitor

Bezel-less amazing, bit wobbly though.

Heya! does the Gskill RGB software work on this mobo with no issue?

randyor 1 point 22 months ago

I would like to know this too!

pathway27 submitter 1 Build 1 point 21 months ago

Yes, it works fine for me! But, can't get it to sync with the other RGB parts.

favourxyz 1 point 20 months ago

hey, any update on rgb sync on GskillRGB with Gigabyte mobo?

pathway27 submitter 1 Build 1 point 20 months ago

I can sync the colours to a solid color manually.

But i cannot sync in the modes where the color changes.

G.Skill has their own application and so does Gigabyte.

But i coming to like when they don't sync and they just cycle.

dhrurules1 1 Build 1 point 22 months ago

I like the leds on the ram. I've heard that the rgb software is not very good for it so how did you change the colors?

pathway27 submitter 1 Build 1 point 22 months ago

The software works ok, it's still in beta i think. But, i can't sync the RGB it with the other LEDs (motherboard and CPU cooler).

Why do you say we can't buy those gpus anymore?

Stereotypical_Whale 1 Build 3 points 22 months ago

at least in Canada they are basically gone.

KingKiller1759 2 Builds 1 point 22 months ago

RX 500 series has been released, however you can still easily buy 400 series cards, so i'm not sure why he said that either.

Stereotypical_Whale 1 Build 3 points 22 months ago

at least in Canada they are basically gone.

pathway27 submitter 1 Build 1 point 22 months ago

Hard to get them in Australia now, besides second hand.

KingKiller1759 2 Builds 1 point 22 months ago

I can see them here on newegg and amazon no problem. I'm also Canadian.

pathway27 submitter 1 Build 1 point 22 months ago

I see out of stock (on the same sites), or much more expensive than RX 580, wonder why.

GoatVomit 1 Build 2 points 22 months ago

Well I got scared because I've been looking here in Portugal and 480s are almost all sold out in every shop. Oh well I'll go with the 580 4g from msi armor

pathway27 submitter 1 Build 1 point 22 months ago

Yeah, RX 580 a bit better anyway. Looking forward to see your build!

GoatVomit 1 Build 1 point 22 months ago

I'll post it here if I remember

Just finished it and remembered you. There you go: https://es.pcpartpicker.com/b/4QP323

Thanks man.

NZXT really does make nice cases.

Good Build !

QUESTION : R5 1600 + AB350 GAMING 3 + TRIDENT Z RGB 16GB 3000Mhz work ?

Your TRIDENT Z RGB 16GB 3000Mhz work perfectly ? How much MHZ ? XMP ?

Thanks a lot man, i need help. :'(

pathway27 submitter 1 Build 1 point 22 months ago

Thanks.

Yes, it will work perfectly AFTER you update the motherboard BIOS to the latest (F6 at the moment). It's at 2933 Mhz (see last picture i posted), using the XMP profile in the BIOS.

Looking forward to your build, should work well too.

sierraritter 1 point 20 months ago

What settings do you have in the bios to oc your ram?

pathway27 submitter 1 Build 1 point 20 months ago

I didn't oc the RAM, just made it run at the speed it was made for.

I just set the XMP profile in the BIOS.

But, make SURE you update your motherboard BIOS to the latest one, or it wont work!

What's your twitch?

sierraritter 1 point 20 months ago

So jealous ): I've been tinkering with my profiles and voltage settings like mad though I've only had it together for a few days. I have the 3200 mhz kit and I can't get it a single hertz over 2400.

It's www.twitch.tv/Profit_Cherry - took a bit of a pause since gathering everything for my pc project haha

pathway27 submitter 1 Build 1 point 20 months ago

But you have updated the motherboard BIOS?

sierraritter 1 point 20 months ago

Yeah, I ended up upgrading to the CAS 14 (I had the 16) kit that should be in today or tomorrow so hoping that will help and give me luck there!

pathway27 submitter 1 Build 1 point 20 months ago

Good luck, yeah i hear the lower timings are more compatible. Reply here if you put your build up here.

hyperlock1713 1 point 16 months ago

is that psu quiet?

pathway27 submitter 1 Build 1 point 16 months ago

The fan isn't even on unless I'm doing something intensive. Under full load, I can't even hear it unless I put my ear near my case.

I'm about a meter from my case.

hyperlock1713 1 point 16 months ago

Ok thx for the reply

Ryzen finally put some competition for Intel, so they will bring out the big guns for you.
