Description

I was assigned with the mission of creating two gaming PCs that resembled the British Mark 5 Tank from WWI. The 1st tank was for AMD, which explains the Radeon Red paint job. The 2nd Tank which I'll be starting shortly will be going to DICE's headquarters in Sweden. The paint for the 2nd has been finalized yet. I'm hoping I can paint it a more era appropriate color, like "Desert Khaki." This project was the biggest challenge I've faced in my 14 years of creating custom PCs. Not so much the design, but the time I was given to build everything. I was given 3.5 weeks to have it in LA for it's reveal on the 2016 Games Awards show. It was designed with just over a 1,000 individually laser cut pieces. The construction consists of .25" thick 100% cast acrylic and machined aluminum parts. During it's assembly (clocked 52 hours) I had to skip a lot of the intricate details we planned to buy myself time. Luckily I have a very understanding spouse as "Mr Tank" and I spent a lot of intimate hours on my workbench together. There is no deadline (yet) for the 2nd Tank going to DICE, so I can relax a little hopefully. What's really cool about this project, is that the design and layout we created worked out better than we anticipated for an ATX system. You would imagine installing and removing the hardware would be a PITA, but it's not, especially for my big bands. You would also imagine that the cooling would be compromised by the enclosed design, but the tracks are perforated for airflow, power supply has it's own venting and the cpu cooler is mounted in the roof. I'm already brainstorming how we can use the "core chassis design" to emulate other cool vehicles like the APC Vehicle from ALIENS or the FALCON XB from Mad Max.... Hmmm. You can see build stages here, https://mnpctech.com/amd-radeon-bf1-battlefield-1-scale-model-mark-v-extreme-gaming-pc-ww1-tank-case-mod.html

If you don't mind me asking, how much does it cost to have the case custom made like that? Just curious....

Its not like I might want to buy a custom case that looks like my favorite thing... :P

  • 2 points

$850 for parts, 52 hours of assembly time @ $80 per hour, so $5010 + cost of paint job, you can see build stages here, https://mnpctech.com/amd-radeon-bf1-battlefield-1-scale-model-mark-v-extreme-gaming-pc-ww1-tank-case-mod.html

Wow, that's crazy! The hard work put into it justifies the price though, and that's totally understandable.

This is the second time I've seen a build of this sort of thing, the first being a minigun one, and both were red. This is absolutely amazing. I would of gone with the MSI Gaming 480, but perhaps that would of been to red... Regardless it's stunning.
