Description

This build is for my little brother.

When we were young we use to co-op every game together that we could, from Nintendo to Xbox, I was Mario and he was my Luigi, I was Red team and he was Blue, he was my wingman, my copilot, my co-driver. Then **** changed, I grew up, got married, moved out and had my own family. We lost touch, didn’t hang out as much and he suffered, he has had a hard life and not all of it was his fault. He has been in and out of jail for stupid mistakes that could have happened to anyone, but happened to him because of poor decisions. He gets out of jail in about a week for the second or third time, I really am ashamed I cannot remember. I built this in hopes we can co-op once again, and maybe this will get his mind off his demons and help get him into PC gaming.

I wanted to build something from the bottom and teach him how to upgrade PC components. This APU will handle simple gaming like Hammerwatch, Torchlight 2, Broforce and the likes with ease. Once he gets a job and has steady income we can start to upgrade it with a dedicated GPU, if he needs more processing power then I can teach him how to pop in an 880k or 845.

Most of the parts were spares I had laying around from old builds, monitor, mouse and keyboard were old components my work was throwing out, case was a leftover and RAM was from an old APU build that was converted into an 860k build and no longer needed fast RAM.

Sorry for the shaky pictures, i was getting a little emotional towards the end.

Part Reviews

CPU

Best bang for the buck, runs simple games like Hammerwatch, Torchlight 2, Broforce and the likes with ease.

Motherboard

Did not come with speaker or pin adapter for front panel connectors, WiFi works well but i have not tested the Bluetooth

Memory

Fast RAM, no errors, good price

Storage

Fast and solid, good price

Case

Looks good, zero cable management, has a blue LED fan so it must run cooler than the model with the red LED fan.

Power Supply

Cheap, solid, non modular but gets the job done

Optical Drive

Does what it's supposed to do after being beaten around

This touched my heart, I too have a little brother who I don't talk to much anymore and he's had a really rough go of it. +1 for Making a grown man cry.

Being the older brother is not as easy as some make it out to be, i grew up and started my own family and it's my fault for not really being there for him.

to even visit my brother I had to drive about an hour (which once I started driving I did quite often) but then he got kicked out of his moms and moved down to NJ and I haven't seen him since, like in years. I've been trying to talk to him more (he recently got kicked out of his dads house too so that's not even the easiest thing) but I used to love playing stuff together growing up. Also you can't really completely blame yourself bro, life happens and it sometimes pulls us apart, he'll make it through I know he will with a brother who cares about him like you do.

I just have a lot of guilt, he lives 15 minutes down the road, i had no excuse. But you're right, maybe this is the beginning of a change.

well listen (and im no psychiatrist/psychologist or anything) but obviously you love him a ton and im sure he knows that so just build bridges. hang out with him when you can or invite him over to do stuff or even just play stuff on the computer or what have you. show him you care and everything will start to look up it just takes time trust me.

EDIT: I say this and the guy i'm talking to is probably WAY older than me xD

So I guess his nick name is Sweaty Balls, got to love being the older brother. :D The nickname I have for my younger brother is not safe for this site.

Good looking build less one thing driving my OCD nuts. Why go with an ITX mobo with a mATX tower?

I could have gone with a cheaper larger board and bought a wireless card for it, but i wanted everything to be compact and combined. I also have another case in mind for him later on, specifically the bitfenix prodigy, he always did like that case.

That would be nice to see. I have always preferred ITX cases, I like my builds small and neat. We just wont talk about my current gaming rig in a NZXT H440 ;). I am getting a rig together in a Coolermaster Elite 110, just need a GPU and it is ready to replace my gaming rig.

Have you thought about the 130 instead? I did a build in one about a year ago and it turned out exactly as i had hoped.

I thought about it, but I wanted the build as small as possible. I could not tell you the last time I used an ODD, though being able to use longer GPU's would have been nice. I do really hate the power LED on the 110, I leave it unhooked.

would have gone without the ssd if you arent adding a hdd but i guess sweaty balls can deal with it

It helps the build not feel sluggish, and I wanted him to have it.
