Description

After 5 months of research, a lot of planning, and help from other users on PCPP here it is. I wanted this PC to run Overwatch and Fallout 4 at something around 120 fps, after upgrading to a GTX 1070 it did just that. Aesthetics were something I definitely considered when making this build, and overall I'm very happy with how it turned out. Big thanks to strangepax for inspiration for this build. Part Reviews

CPU Cooler

Cables slightly annoying other than that great cooler, silent, good temps.

Motherboard

Great board, a bit overpriced.

Great price, great looks, and works great. What more can you ask from RAM?

Storage

Works as intended, great form factor!

Video Card

Works well, I get good fps in Overwatch.

Case

Great case, looks great, great price, and easy to build in.

Case Fan

Great fans, and they look great though setup is slightly confusing.

Seriously I would recommend using a higher power cooler such as the Cryorig R1 Universal. It works great and fits your black and white color scheme. The Cryorig H7 is meant for HTPCs and such since it is so low profile. Also, you could use a different cooler and just swap out the fans for white ones. Overall this looks like a super cool build. Can't wait to build a PC of my own!

I completely agree, also I didn’t thing about swapping out the fans for white ones... thanks for hat idea!

Thanks! Just remember not to cheap out on the cooler tower fans. They will definitely make a difference.

Your welcome. Also, thx for the extra advice :D

the r1 doesnt fit in this case unfortunately. but the h5 might.

10 hours and 1 second of pure black screen XD BTW the reason why people don't use this board is because of the lack of features for the price and relatively cheap OEM

Ya but it looks cool so... Also, what do you mean 10 hours and 1 second of black screen?

The video you pulled up on your screen in pic#16 I just thought it was funny

Ah yes lol I used that because I was either getting glare from the screen when it was turned on or if I turned off the screen all the lights would go off...

Nice job on a first build! looks like a storm trooper, especially with the NZXT motherboard. Cable management also looks good

Just curious about a few things, any reason that you went with air cooling over an AIO? With the 8600k I'd second the recommendation to go with a more powerful cooler, like the Cryorig H7 or the CoolerMaster MA610P, which has good cooling performance for the price (plus RGB if that's important for you).

Also, I'd suggest removing the drive bays and just stashing them in storage shince you don't have anything in them for now. IMO it would make the build look cleaner. If you haven't gotten the RGB on the fans to work (I can't quite tell from the pics), you need the Hue+ unit and CAM to use the RGB feature on the Aer fans.

Thanks for all your suggestions I really appreciate them! First of all to answer your first question the reason I got such an underpowered air cooler instead of an AIO or better air cooler was simply because I was being dumb, liked the way it looked, and an AIO was too expensive for me. (My first upgrade is going to be getting the Kraken x62) About removing the drive bays I didn't even think if that! Thanks I will definitely do that! Thank you again for the suggestions! :)

Also, about the fans I got them working. (Hue+ and Grid+ are both integrated with the MOBO)

Wait by the drive bays you mean the places where the SSDs go right? :P

Why did you choose that cooler in a mid tower?

  • 1 point

Because I don’t like the way side facing coolers look. But now that I’m down with my pc I definitely don’t recommend it!

I would reccomend the r1 universal or the h7

How is the NZXT mobo?

Absolutely amazing I would definitely recommend it the only problem is hat no one had used it so there was literally no support for it.

Does the plate you removed to install the m.2 not fit back on with the module in place? Or did you want it off to be able to read the post codes?

  • 1 point

It is recommended to not put the plate back on because then you ADD will over heat sadly :(

The build looks pretty good. Just like what everyone has been saying about the cooler; I agree. I saw your reply about wanting to upgrade to an X62, and I highly recommend it. I have one and have overclocked my 8350K to 4.5 GHz with good temperatures. Also, I feel like the 1050 Ti is slightly underpowered for the 8600K which is quite monstrous. Do you plan on upgrading that? I'd recommend a 1060 at least. I guess that may be all you need for Overwatch, but the pair of that with your current CPU which is high end with the third lowest end Nvidia card isn't the best choice.

I am going to get a 1080 when I get a new 1440p 144hz monitor butt currently my 1050 ti holds a steady 60fps at Epic settings (my montor can only display up to 60fps)

Is your CPU and GPU both combined good for streaming? I'm only gonna play and stream "League of Legends". I'm new to this btw.

Sry I don’t stream so I don’t know >_<

Why did you run the 24 pin across the cable sheild and not under it kinda bothers me. Lol

  • 1 point

I thought the same thing. After just finishing my own build in the same case, I can tell you the white 24-pin cables I used (uphere from amazon) were extremely stiff, so it took several tries with brute force to get them to bend enough to plug in and go under the cable shield. I'm guessing he didn't want to bend them too hard in case it caused issues, as I wondered the same thing (but did it anyway)

you put your memory in the wrong slots

  • 1 point

No I didn't I tried the other slots first and it gave me memory errors. I might be wrong but I'm pretty sure I'm right.

  • 1 point

Nice build, but I think your memory modules are in the wrong slots.

  • 1 point

Hmm, I think they are in the right slots, when I put them in the other slots it gives me a memory post code error!?

  • 1 point

OK, I thought you had to put them un slots 1 and 3 or 2 and 4 for dual channel but I guess I was wrong. Cool build btw, I love the black and white color scheme

  • 1 point

Ya, that's what I thought too and it turns out that's what it is for most motherboards but it does vary between motherboards, in this case it was those slots.

  • 1 point

OK, good to know.

  • 1 point

When your motherboard costs twice as much as you GPU you have a problem! I would have saved a couple hundred $s on the mobo and got a 1070/1070ti or even a 1080/1080ti if you went for an R5 1600x instead.

  • 1 point

Currently bidding on a 1070, sucker for looks and even thought it was stupid I don't really regret it TBH, plus I would have gotten the hue+ and probobly grid+ anyway so subtract the price of those from the cost of my Mobo. At least I didn't get one of their PSUs...
