Description

Hey pickers, this is my first build. I just joined the Master Race a few months ago when i purchased my son a pc from Digital Storm (great machine btw) This set in motion an expensive chain of events that has been alot of fun along the way. If not for pickers like yourselves i never would have the confidence to even try this. So thanks guys! Also got to send a shout out to Jimmie, Soody, Bird, and Byrd...the poor fekkers that had to listen to me babble on about this over 2 months as i accumulated the parts. I have no complaints about any parts I chose, Strix is unreal! Cpu is great, SSD is a must have if you've had it for even one day. The biggest surprise for me is the difference that the 144hz monitor makes....saaammmoooooth!! oh yes... my wife bought me those swell matching headphones last night so she gets a shout out too! Thanks again everyone.

*small update.....thanks to Sphyloid (see comments section) I have a fun, good natured AMD vs. NVIDIA fanboy clash in the comfort of my own home! a couple days after reading Sphyls comments my son hit me with...."you know... that guy has a point...blah, blah, blah,,,,so i bought him an R9290 for 240$$ for his machine. another great card but i still say my Strix looks better : )...anyhoo look at my last pic and see the surprise backround my son made and snuck onto my puter.....

Quotes Martin Luther King's famous 'I have a dream' speech in the title. Talks about joining the 'Master Race' first thing in the description. Good one. :D +1

Very nice build. I normally am not a huge fan of the look of those thermaltake cases but the chaser in red and white is pretty sexy. +1

I agree with you there with the look of the case, especiallly the black/blue on the Chaser cases. Ugh.

Andre, its awesome. hard to put into words, just nearly flawless and has a really smooth, accurate feel. I'm not huge into first person shooters, but that's the area that really shines with this monitor. read up, you will need to load a color profile and do a bit of tweaking to get your colors just right. Its easy though

If you really want to go overboard you could change the power led to a red one. I have the case and with some soldering its very possible.

I have that monitor and I love it. Only problem with it is it does not lock at 90 degrees

That exhaust fan is sweet, I've never seen that before.

I've been curious about the motherboard you have picked out. I've got the ROG Maximus VII FORMULA picked out for mine but with it being so expensive I'm having a hard time budgeting it. I know I shouldnt skimp on parts if I want a decent machine to last me a good long while. But how is this one working out for you? I'd love to be able to afford a motherboard and get goin on my build. I feel outdated playing games like Black Ops on my 360 all the time. Gotta get on the PC wagon. lol Thanks in advance for anything you've got to share

I'm no expert by any means, but I have had no negatives with this board, and all reviews I've read state it is more than adequate for a solid gaming setup.

How was the mobo working for ya? I'm planning to buy one myself for my build. Very nice build nonetheless I love your build +1

I have had no issues at all with the motherboard...some say the gigabyte bios isn't the best to navigate, but being pretty new at this I don't have much to compare it with. I think it is fairly straight forward. oh and thank you sir... I love it too!

Your son, the AMD troll xP . I love all the parts you picked except maybe the case is a bit 2000's haha. But you made it all work. I especially dig the RGB exhaust fan!!

I have the Acer version of your monitor btw (GN246HL), since they share the same panel. Love the quality of that display! What picture/software did you use to calibrate the display with? I just kinda eyeballed it with a game I play all the time, but I want to use something for more accurate calibration.

Where did you manage to get the red trimming from? All the other pics I see are blue. Is it custom? It looks REALLY nice!

thanks man...I used plasti dip spray from home depot. pretty amazing stuff really. some of the surface I applied it to was really slick, non porous and it has adhered perfectly with no peeling or anything up to this point

How are you liking the strix? Any complaints? I'm thinking of getting the same card.

  • 1 point

none at all Bro Tato. For my part the whole 970 controversy is irrelevant as this card mows through all games on ultra no problem. I like the look of the strix alot, the quiet, and the cool temps...highly recommend!

Umm I am thinking about getting the same Mobo as you, i have not been able to tell if it has onboard bluetooth/wifi though. Im sure since you already built with it you would know, can you tell me if it does?

  • 1 point

I dont think it does, I use ethernet so I never really looked into it. just google the board itself and look at the gigabyte spec page.

Thanks, I guess I most likely need to get a WiFi card.

hey.....am im making a build like this with the same motherord, tower, cpu, gpu, hard drive (1T). Can you tell me if you had any problems seting up the pc and how is it working atm. Thanks in advance!

I had minimal problems at all putting it together. Not one issue at all since the build was completed. It has been awesome. I would suggest getting an ssd it makes a lot of difference in boot times and general speed of functions.

Hey can I paint the parts that aren't white orange?

  • 1 point

yep, thats what i did in red

  • 1 point

how did you paint the case red and white? (asking because im making a red and black build but the black version of the case is black and blue)

  • 1 point

i used a product from home depot called plasti dip. its like spray paint, but after several layers it seems more like a plastic coating. almost 2 years and no issues. no peeling or fading.

  • 1 point

yeah i wasn't sure about the product after reading some reviews... Linus tech tips did a video on colouring pc parts and he used plastidip. many people says it peels if you try and paint it on hot things like the video card. mabey plastic/metal spray paint might work better? i dont know...

  • 1 point

ya the areas i painted aren't exposed to excessive heat. the plastic was quite smooth and nonporous though, and I'm kind of surprised there has been no peeling at all.

ok thanks! might try it out.. i switched my case to a black nzxt phantom 530
