Description

My first build! I wanted a computer that could handle Overwatch at 1440p/144Hz and some editing on the side. And it had to have a Mei decal on it, of course - Mei is bae!

The case was overall a pleasure to build in. It's fairly easy to work around in the case. the provided gromits and other openings make cable management an easy task. Only gripes would be the small amount of clearance in the power supply unit for plugging in modular cables. I ended up having to insert wires in my my left hand in the drive bay and my right hand next to the power supply. Other than that, everything else came really easy.

For people wondering where I got the Mei decal, I got it from GCGraphics: https://www.etsy.com/listing/474477263/mei-overwatch-decal-overwatch-mei-bumper

Awesome Build!!! Ohhh Boy...here they go with the "Mei" Puns...LOL CAn't w8 to build my system, w8ing for RYZEN as well....But i might give in to a 7700K, been hearing only good things about it, would be coming from z87 4770K

Need help deciding what color theme though, Black/Yellow or White/Green...=( need help

AWESOME build though take my +1 =)

  • 1 point

Thank you for the compliments! I would recommend waiting for Ryzen based on everything I've seen. If you can wait this long, what's another few weeks? Comparable performance for hundreds less is a steal in my book!

Based on when I was shopping, there are more parts available in black / yellow color schemes but that's just coming from me

  • 1 point

Advice: Kaby Lake uses the worst TIM between die and IHS that I've ever seen. Wait for Zen.

Friend didn't want to wait until Zen, got a 7700k, booted at stock with a Hyper 612 on it..

It idles at 40 and hits 70 as soon as you put a load on it. Instantaneously, no delay. Take the load off, SNAP back down to 40. He ended up getting an H115i as a stopgap measure and is going to delid it sometime.

he didnt need fancier because it is not overclockable, and it looks better than stock

  • 2 points

yeah i would have gotten a c7

  • 2 points

I wish I knew the C7 was an option, haha. Thanks for the recommendation; next time!

  • 1 point

Hahaha, I picked it because it matched colors and was relatively affordable. Definitely going for the Cryorig C7 next time if I do a build like this again.

  • 1 point

It's a bit late now, but I would have opted for the 6700k over the 6700, even without an oc, it has a much higher clock speed

  • 1 point

Ah, you're right. I avoided the K series because i didn't want to overclock, but 4.0GHz vs. 3.4GHz base clock speed is a pretty big difference. I'll pay more attention next time!

  • 1 point

I feel your pain with that 3.0 usb. Look at my build. You should remove the hard drive bay, two screws at the top, and two at the bottom for each side

  • 1 point

So that's how you got all those cables to breathe nicely. Thanks for the suggestion! I have plans to put a hard drive there in the future, so I probably won't remove it unless I have a good reason for it. Thanks though!

  • 1 point

I just want to know,

where did you find that decal? Do you know if they have a Hanzo or Mercy decal?

  • 1 point

Etsy is a great place to look. I got my Mei decal from GCGraphics: https://www.etsy.com/listing/474477263/mei-overwatch-decal-overwatch-mei-bumper

Just for your convenience, here are two Hanzo and Mercy decals from an Etsy seller, respectively (I haven't bought from them so I don't know their quality, but I'm sure they're good based on the customer ratings): https://www.etsy.com/listing/398406685/hanzo-decal https://www.etsy.com/listing/292536409/mercy-decal

Very nice build! Love the colors. How are the noise levels with the fans on full DC power?

  • 2 points

Pretty quiet! I don't have an exact decibel reading. If you pay attention you can hear them, otherwise I'm not really listening to the sound haha

  • 1 point

Why doesn't this use phase change cooling? :D

  • 1 point

Ahahaha that would've been perfect thematically! Too bad I didn't know what that was until today.. it also looks hard to do for a first time builder like me.

  • 1 point

this build is amazing! and mei i add: i love the mei sticker! (but i hate mei in ow) 1+!!!

  • 1 point

If I were you I wouldn't have went with the 6700, I would've went with the 7600k. It's over 60 dollars cheaper and great for gaming but it's your build and it looks ******* awesome! Damn good job!!!

  • 1 point

Ha ha, thanks! I need more threads for video rendering , but I also don't know the benchmarks between the 6700 & 7600 when it comes to that. Thanks though!

  • 1 point

How did you get that monitor so cheap? So jealous. And great job on your build! <3

Good sale at Best Buy + 25$ discount for using Visa checkout. Thank you!

  • 1 point

You can probably remove/unplug the top two fans without temperatures rising, a 65W CPU and 180W GPU don't need much case airflow, especially since you've already got a nice intake fan. The CPU cooler doesn't look very performant. For a 65W CPU it shouldn't matter, but if you ever got something hotter, look for heatpipes.

  • 1 point

Thanks for the advice! I'll do some experiments and see what I find. The cooler is all right, I'll probably replace it for a better one down the road.

  • 1 point

Or a massive copper slug in the middle. I have some unnamed Deepcool CPU cooler on top of a Q6600 client build from a long time ago(they traded it back for work on their current rig) and it stays under 50 C. Basically is just a sized up Intel stock cooler with a bigger copper slug and more aluminum fins. And a better fan.

  • 1 point

HOW DID U GET THIS FOR UNDER 2200 DOLLARS? HOW? U HAD A MONITOR, MOUSE, KEYBOARD, AND SPEAKERS. I know you cheaped out on stuff... but HOW?

  • 2 points

I actually bought everything, nothing listed was owned before the build! Pretty impressive, especially since that price is after tax. Most of the money saved came from a combination of scouring /r/buildapcsales as the parts I wanted came on sale, and cheaping out on everything else. The motherboard / CPU specifically were a combo deal from Microcenter. That store is also where I bought my graphics card, at an open box price.

  • 2 points

hey! this is the only build that i found that has those beautiful moba/fps corsair keycaps... do you know if they are made of PBT like the 104 keycaps found in the white/black kits from corsair? i have the black one and want to buy this kit for the WASD keys

  • 1 point

Hey sorry for the late reply! The package does not have any specifications on whether or not they are made of PBT, so my assumption is that they are not. However, I have been using them for over two years now and can attest that they still look good and function as intended!
