Description

Small build I threw together last month for the living room. I wanted something easy on the wallet that could handle a big game load as well as produce good picture for my 47" samsung. This little guy has been a good addition to the living room as it has taken the place of both my Xbox one and my blue ray player.

I know most HTPC builders want a case that wont stick out much, I however like to make my builds visually pleasing. I like pretty lights and unnecessary bells and whistles. I went with the Apevia X-QPACK mainly for it's looks and side window. Also because I haven't seen many builds using it. It's a cool little case and has a very unique way of opening for maintenance which I thoroughly enjoyed.

I decided to go team red on this build when I found the GPU. It was on craigslist brand new in a sealed box for only $100. The FX-6300 is a great power house for this build. I got it for a little under $90 which made it worth while.

All together I'd say this build was a win. Only draw back is the MOBO. It's working as of right now. Which is good. However it was NOT the best choice by far. For the money though it was the clear winner. (see MOBO review for further explination)

The RAM from this build had to be stollen to revive my main rig (Mjolnir) because one my the sticks died on me. It will be replaced this weekend with the same Fury red 4gig sticks. The Stock CPU cooler will also be replaced with the one stated in the parts list. Shipping on it was slow and I was eager to build. ;)

Thanks for stopping by! Let me know what I can do better please!

Part Reviews

CPU

Fantastic choice for this build. Power is right where it should be and it doesn't run quite as hot as I was expecting. Perfect choice for the budget gaming build.

Motherboard

This thing was a shot in the dark. After reading Amazon reviews I was a little timid on using it for a build that will spend most of it's life running. But the real worry is the reliability issues. Apparently people have had a whole lot of troubles with keeping it running. So far I have no complaints other than the way out of date BIOS and limited fan headers. Or should I say single fan header. I'm keeping my fingers crossed it doesn't crap out like others.

Memory

Solid choice all around. I'm now running these in my main rig as well.

Video Card

Eats up every casual game I've thrown at it so far. Not planning on doing anything crazy with it so the smaller card is perfect for this build.

Case

Nifty little case. Great break down for building. 100% recommend this guy if you're looking for something small.

Power Supply

By far the best budget small wattage PSU your pocket change can buy.

FX stock cooler :( it must sound like a jet engine. You should get that changed out.

As I said in the description I'll be switching it out for the one listed in the parts list. And to be honest under load the 6300 runs surprisingly cool. The stock cooler hasn't stressed too hard yet.

I love it! It was the first thing to fall into my lap for this build so I stuck with it.

I use a 370 myself, no issues at all with 1080 gaming.
