Description

This is the 13th computer I've owned/built. I tried to focus on a quiet specification, but with new/fast parts.

Part Reviews

CPU

Why not? This is a mainstream part.

CPU Cooler

Top notch. It will help keep it quiet, although it is LARGE. I enjoyed managing the size of it. ;-)

Definently do some space planning if you intend to use this cooler. Memory cards should be low-profile cards, and you should check for overlap/conflicts with your motherboard's PCI-E slots. http://noctua.at/en/products/cpu-cooler-retail/nh-d15/comp

Motherboard

I upgraded a little bit for this MB. I was worried about the weight of my fan/cpu-cooler, and I liked the idea of extra prevention/safeguards for electric static discharge.

Note: I've noticed something unusual. Three times recently, when I attached a USB device to the front case's 2.0 USB ports the PC will reboot. There's no error, no BSOD, just an IPL reboot. I'm going to monitor this more. Is it a case problem or motherboard problem?

Memory

I needed these low-profile cards to fit the large fan/cooler. Worked.

Storage

I liked the idea of fast M.2 storage.

Video Card

Nice, but not too-nice $$.

Case

Nice an large, to fit my cooler.

I also like the hot-swap SATA drive bay on the top of the case. In the past, I've sometimes needed to attached a SATA drive externally and dislike when it flops around lose outside the case. I expect I'll use this drive bay in the future.

Operating System

I'm a PRO.

Monitor

Costco sells these for $370.

Keyboard

Nice for macros.

Headphones

Nice for a short walk to grab a drink.

Nice PC! Though with this budget you could've added the gtx 1080, which is a total beast! Have fun gaming!

With that budget he maybe could've gotten two lmao

The 4K monitors spiked the budget a bit, especially buying two of them. They are a bit OP for the 1070 . I'm running them at 2560x1440 and getting 100+ FPS because at 4K (3840x2160) it drops my FPS <60.

I've read that the 1080's don't handle 4K much better, so I opt'd for the lower price 1070 and sub-par 4K resolution.

No wonder.....monitors and gpu' safe always the most expensive in a build.

Nice build. I like how the Noctua looms there like an alien mothership.

Ya, this thing is large.

It was kinda funny, but my case space planning centered around this CPU cooler. It all worked out pretty well, and installation was easy, but I can see how smaller cases or large/high-profile memory cards could easily obstruct the installation.

Also, Noctua has a webpage that shows any possible motherboard sizing conflicts. http://noctua.at/en/products/cpu-cooler-retail/nh-d15/comp

It's a great PC, but the total price just doesn't make sense to me...

Did you have any issues with RAM recognization? The motherboard doesn't support 3200mhz ram but I also order the same ram and was wondering if any problems. Thanks

NoTwitch submitter 1 Build 2 points 31 months ago

I had no issues. I've read that setting the BIOS settings for high speed memory can be tricky for some motherboards, but for this rig's motherboard I enabled "XMP" and the BIOS automatically recognized (and set) the memory for 3200mhz.
