Description

Well my first build was last November. I recently moved into a new home and inherited a massive TV. I turned my original build into the HTPC/Living Room gaming machine. So I went with a new build based on Haswell. I kept my Sapphire 7970 for this build and was about to get another. But I've been reading about how the micro-stutter is terrible with Eyefinity and the new drivers don't fix it. I am probably going to wait for Volcanic Islands and see how they perform compared to two 7970's, or if there is a driver fix. I wanted to also try entry level water cooling and make a themed build. I went with a black and white color scheme to match the case with blue accent lights. Shout out to /u/Unisenon for answering all my questions about his "Rarity" build. Yes, I know the power supply is way overkill. I bought it awhile ago, not really doing much research, but it was a steal. Got it for $200, and for a high quality PSU like this that is incredibly efficient with monitoring software, I'm fine with it. I'm running an EX280 radiator with the stock 140mm fans in push with the 200mm fans in pull. That took a little modding and bending to fit, but I think it is well worth it. Also, I managed a stable overclock at 4.7GHz with 1.258V. I was reaching a max of 85 degrees Celsius under Prime95. Oddly, a higher Vcore led to instability at 47x and it kept crashing in windows at 48x. This is the first time I've seriously tried my hand at overclocking. So any tips are welcome. I spent a lot of time and meticulous work to do this and am very proud. Thanks for looking!

Nice build. You got plans for that big PSU?

Yup. Depending on the next line of AMD cards, I may or may not crossfire with 7970s. Eventually I will put waterblocks on the GPU's too, but unfortunately this card is non reference.

wait, where'd you get the cover thing for the MOBO? are there any other models? (MSI g45 gaming mobo) (z77)

  • 1 point

that is the thermal armor that comes with the MOBO. I'm pretty sure it is only for that specific MOBO.

  • 1 point

aw, how much was it?

  • 1 point

It only comes with the Sabertooth motherboard

  • 1 point

the Z87 gryphon has a seperate armor kit for it, specific for the gryphon though

  • 1 point

It only comes on the TUF series of boards. Sabertooth and gryphon. Although, I dont see it for the Sabertooth X79 board. It comes all black, so I painted it, along with the X-shaped cover for the Raystorm CPU block. Mine is around $235 right now I think.

  • 1 point

Oh man, what a beautiful build! Did you paint all those parts? If yes, what paint did you use?

  • 2 points

Yes I painted the motherboard cover, radiator and CPU cover. The GPU and PSU I covered in matte white vinyl.

  • 0 points

That's awesome, what type/brand paint did you use?

  • 1 point

I just used flat white rustoleum spray paint.

  • 3 points

Any concern that the painted surfaces on components are negatively impacting heat retention? Am under the impression that 85 degrees Celsius is getting on the high side?

Incredible looking build though! Wow...

  • 1 point

NO it doesnt. And 85 degrees is under full load of P95. so its not that hot.

Very, very nice setup. I must ask, why not put your monitors, they way most people do? :)

  • 2 points

I don't like a landscape layout. I never really play games that would use them, like racing games. I know some people like it for FPS games, but I find the FOV makes everything look really weird. Plus, this is like having a huge, high resolution monitor.

  • 1 point

Beautiful build! Did you do your own sleeving? Thanks for sharing.

No. I thought about it, but the amount of work and time that I don't really have, I decided to just buy. I really only wanted white ones and these fit the bill perfectly.

  • 1 point

yeahh lol. but someone told me that intel said its safe to around 1.45 ish but its gonna kill it faster. i just lowered it to 1.29 at 4.5 GHz because i hd to be on manual volt at 4.6 i couldnt get offset to work. i dont think its working for me at 4.5 though

If I'm right, the new AMD GPUs have hardware frame pacing, which apparently helps with the eyefinity stutters... I'm not use if this is correct, so it might be worth doing some research, but that should help.

Nice build BTW, looks pretty sweet! I've always loved the Phantom cases from NZXT.

  • 1 point

I'm surprised I haven't noticed this build sooner. It looks fantastic - unlike anything I've seen in awhile. I remember back in the day when computer fanatics took exterior design to the next level when it came to components and the case itself, haha.

A bit about that PSU - Though people are saying it's too much, it's good to have in case you want to upgrade anything on your rig, be it the GPU... uh... or the GPU (chuck a second one in there, anything works haha). However very, very, very nice build. Worth the time put into making it, I'm sure.

Ok, I think I'm going to build this pc. It is the god of pc's with that artic white. Things I would change: I would probably throw in 16gb of RAM, the white vengeance of course, I might go with an i5 5th gen now that they have them, I would go with NZXT's white PSU so I don't have to spray paint one, and I might go with one of Asus's white Nvidia graphics cards. Other than that, this is a sweet build and it is still nice the way it is now, this is just what I would do to in for my preference. BTW, Love that Ducky keyboard.

Beautiful build, but OMG the CPU heat would burn up the chip in less than a month

How well would it run Fortnite? High and how many fps?

Good build you'll need to overclock the gpu to 110% for the bottleneck to go away other than that great build.

That SSD mount is pretty cool too. SSD on a drive rack tied to the case. Very creative thinking.

Thanks! It actually is screwed in. I was somehow able to match up the holes with the ODD mounting holes.

I have the NZXT Hue, and most of the time I have it set to white light. I may replace the LEDs in the cpu block to white too.

Did you make this account to troll people? Seems so as both the comments I've seen from you are negative or trying to put people down.

Just upgraded to a 780ti! Not HOF though.... :(

Its colour is silvery, I think it would not have suited your build. Which 780Ti have you got? Are you going to paint it too?

The HOF edition by itself looks very beautiful.

Awesome job painting all your parts. It looks excellent.
