Description

Built a MicroATX PC for my brother. This was my first MATX build and it went really well. He also got a new desk and some RGB LEDs to go with it. The only problem that we ran into was the GPU not fitting quite right but we simply loosened the mobo and moved it over a bit to get it to fit. Unfortunately, the budget did not allow for a modular PSU but most of the cables are hidden from view.

Possible future upgrades include interior led lighting, more RAM, and PSU extensions.

Nice build, looking for another brother? I would rotate that cooler clockwise 90* though.

2nd build I have seen today with the CPU cooler facing upwards rather than sideways to the exhaust, any particular reason?

The complete set-up (office that is) is awesome, I am jealous.

Cheers,

Honestly, it probably makes a very small difference with cooling so I am not really that concerned. I will change it if I get the chance but he has been playing games on it constantly so I'm just going to leave it and let him enjoy his first PC.

Thanks, read it now. Not being picky but with a proper GPU (not one like the one used in the tests) dissipating lots of heat upwards, I reckon the fan next to the ram pushing air towards the fan exhaust gives better results. Or at least this is what my engineering mind tells me...

I would have to agree with you. Having the cooler blow hot air onto the GPU may prove to be ok for the CPU, but the GPU will be hit with all the hot exhaust air. The GPU is always the hottest part of any system, so cooling priority should be given to the GPU. Having the CPU cooler blow towards the rear exhaust fan would be the best for overall system temps.

Beautiful! +1

Also that PSU is modular, unless you're talking about full-modular or have a different PSU.

He said extensions, not new cables.

Wat? I wasn't talking about any of those.

look at the pictures. they show a non-modular EVGA powersupply, not the corsair one listed.

Yes which is why I said:

"unless you're talking about full-modular or have a different PSU."

I saw the pic after.

It's two ALEX drawers from IKEA with a LINNMON table. http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/10192824/ http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/S29932181/ (not sure if that is the exact table that he bought but it was something like that from IKEA)

He had purchased the other two monitors previously. I had nothing to do with those. I get what you mean with the PSU but it was either a better psu and a gtx 1060 or this and the 1070. We might upgrade it later but it's fine for now.
