Phantom Pain... pane... window pane... Phanteks... tempered glass. ..........crickets.......... Awe, come on man. Work with me here. :D Aaaaanyway, the time has come to migrate from the "buy-a-Mac-every-few-years" world back to building my own custom rigs. This machine will roll primarily for Windows-based editing, but I plan to set up a Hackintosh install on an extra SSD as well.
My inspiration for the color scheme stems from my desk setup which is also generally black and white with touches of brushed aluminum. So yes, some hardware choices were made for color only. I know, I know. Dangerous thing to do! But the build has turned out excellent and I'm very happy with both the aesthetics and performance. The thing is a beast.
I obviously took inspiration for the fan setup from JamesCoil's Red and Black build - Beautiful! but with a minor difference on the front fans. I went with high performance variants over the silent. Temperatures are rock solid and the noise is tolerable at full speed while pretty low at idle. I don't hear it much over music anyway.
This build has been a long time coming for me and was in the planning stages for quite some time. I'm extremely pleased with how it has turned out and hope to make great use of it for many years. I'm no master builder by any means so if you see something I may have done better, please let me know!
- Photo editing
- Video editing and production
- Web design and development
- Gaming (streaming, recording)
- I compared the cost of a similar Skylake system, and my use cases combined with recycling some bits from a previous build, I just couldn't refuse the X99 route.
Huge thanks to the PCPartPicker crew for featuring the build! Super surprised. Super humbled.
Finally upgraded to EVGA GTX 1080 FTW ACX 3.0! :drooool:
