This is the PlayBox! This particular machine I wanted to build for a while. I started this build slowly piece by piece for the last couple months during Christmas sales. I wanted a gaming PC to replace my PS4 and Xbox One, hence PlayBox, that was strictly for gaming whereas my other PC with an i7-4790k is strictly for my graphic design/digital painting. Now lets get inside this thing!
Motherboard: I have always had good luck with Gigabyte and never had to RMA a board except one time but the customer service was great. Plus they're local, about a half hour drive away from me so I didn't have to ship anything, score! I went with the GA-Z170N-Gaming5 mini-ITX board. I have the Z97 bigger brother of this board in my other computer and it's a great board, IMO. Not too expensive and great features. The wifi on this board is a little on the weak side though if I were to be honest but I just wire it anyway.
CPU: Currently I have a Skylake i5-6500 3.2Ghz. I was going to go for the unlocked "k" but I don't think I want to do much overclocking in this thing since the case lacks extra fan space. Plus if I did want to OC it, I can do the base clock OCing but I don't even think I'll go that far either. This CPU is plenty powerful as-is.
RAM: I currently have 12GB of Crucial Ballistix Sport 2400Mhz inside. I got it on sale for like, $60 during Christmas on Amazon I think. I figure this will be enough for any game for a while.
Graphics Card: EVGA GTX 970 SC was my old card but now I sold it off and got the Gigabyte Xtreme Gaming 970 instead. It's so much better and the aesthetics of it are very eye-pleasing.
Case: This was one of the most important pieces of this build. I needed a console size case since it was going to replace my consoles and be hooked up to my TV so I chose the Silverstone RVZ01B-W. This case is becoming increasingly popular so I wanted to make mine unique. My fiance got me the Lunar White Xbox One controller for Christmas and I thought it would be really cool to math the case to it to really make it seem like a legit console. I think it looks awesome! I'm still going to paint the front sliding panel white and leave the raven logo black and paint the power button gold. It's just so small that I need more precise tools. I'm also going to add a white LED fan to the CPU cooler (and get a new cooler) so it matches the white LED on the controller home button.
So this in my PlayBox! I made it to boot straight to Steam Big Picture mode as well to make it more console-like too. Let me know what you think!
