Build

Deathstar

by Blackoutzzshoot

Description

This build is actually my workstation and my gaming rig. It's actually running every games possible at more then enough FPS(60+) even in 4K. I'm using the 2x 10TB from seagate in Raid 0 and the system is overclocked around 36% ~ 40% depending on my feelings. I've been doing benchmarks on 3D Marks with it and I broke 4 hall of fames using a single card and both in SLI.

SLI Benchmarks : Fire Strike : http://www.3dmark.com/fs/13043911 Fire Strike Extreme : http://www.3dmark.com/fs/13043510 Sky Diver : http://www.3dmark.com/sd/4729989

Single GPU Benchmarks : Cloud Gate : http://www.3dmark.com/cg/4018709 Fire Strike Extreme : http://www.3dmark.com/fs/12617161 Sky Diver : http://www.3dmark.com/sd/4664751 Time Spy : http://www.3dmark.com/spy/1747103

I decided to go with the I7 6950X since the I9 Lineup wasn't annonced yet , but I'm still pretty happy with the result since , it's really stable around 4.1Ghz to 4.3Ghz and was pretty easy to reach 4.5Ghz.

Issues with the build ? :

Mainly about RGB , since there is a lot of RGB headers that were not really compatible together. Like for the corsair fans that cannot use the same hub and controller and each AORUS cards and the sli bridge running on RGB Fusion from Gigabyte and the mobo and the case that runs on ASUS Aura!

The case was a bit small for all the cables , which I'll probably upgrade to cable mod custom cables* in the future. That's why I gave up on the cable management in the back of the case since it was really a mess.

Props :

The 2 1080Ti running in sli got a real performance boost in almost every title using the high speed bridge made for those cards. It's totally stunning even in 1080P.

Pretty Interesting airflow for a huge setup that fit inside a small case like this one and no heat issue so far.

Part Reviews

CPU

Best Benchmarks CPU I've got so far and amazing performance.

Motherboard

Awesome MOBO , the only issue with it was that it lack a second M.2 slot on the motherboard. Aside from that great RGB and performance.

Storage

Instant memory 'd be the best term to explain this ssd.

Storage

Very good HDD to use in a raid setup and pretty effective.

Video Card

Best RGB 1080Ti cards and probably the best card on the market right now. Stunning performance on benchmarks without a need to overclock more then it is already.

Other

Solid case , the only issue so far is the size that should be a bit bigger.

That thing is going to destroy frame rates like it was Alderaan

How are temps on both cards? Also, can it run crysis?

Blackoutzzshoot submitter 1 Build 2 points 19 months ago

Yes , it run crysis and it's around 67 degrees C* when playing Overwatch with ultra settings.

Is the software for G.Skill memory working okay? I heard some people say they were having issues with software problems.

Blackoutzzshoot submitter 1 Build 2 points 19 months ago

Yes , it's working , but yeah there is few issues with it. Actually If I'd install the new version of Asus Aura that 'd fix the issue. Because the only way around was to uninstall asus aura an then use the app from G.SKill to be able to modify the ram then uninstall G.Skill and reinstall Asus Aura to modify the rest of the case. On one of my new build , I've tried the new version of Asus Aura and they were detected already by Asus Aura so probably already fixed.

This thing is just beautiful, I may have had a huge nerdgasm when I saw the specs alone!

Thanks :) I'm getting one every morning! hehe

Why does anyone need 21 TerraBytes of storage, are you storing the google archives in that thing

Blackoutzzshoot submitter 1 Build 1 point 18 months ago

Just my Steam Library is already few TBs :) that's pretty much why and big games like GTA V open really faster in raid so #EasyChoice. I'm also building games on unreal engine that is taking a lot of space by itself on my hdd.

Arvnsard 1 point 18 months ago

Curious about the temps for the bottom card. My build would give me roughly the same amount of clearance using the same card. Its going to be in an Evolv ITX case and I'm extremely cautious on the temps it will reach.

Blackoutzzshoot submitter 1 Build 1 point 17 months ago

Seriously no issue so far , those cards are rock solid and they got a huge heatblock to spread the heat , when playing big games like GTA V in 4k. I'm not getting that much heat :) , but the case got a descent airflow that help a lot for that kind of setup.
