Description

This is my first build, and now I'm hooked! I may have gone overboard, maybe I didn't. I used Ryzen 7 1700 and it's great. My favourite part of the build is the white Fractal case. I chose white because the colours of the room, and because black is done so often. It'll be used for every day use, and to store all my movies, tv shows, and music. It was a great experience and look forward to making more. I'm open to any feedback.

UPDATE FEB 2019

I upgraded the memory to White 16GB set to make the build a more full on white out mode. I put a 120mm fan at the back for exhaust, and moved the other 140mm to the front for better airflow.

Looking forward to making this a full on server.

Part Reviews

CPU

Heavenly. It's fantastic!

Motherboard

More than pleased with this MOBO. I wanted extra sata ports which led me to this, and it worked with my black/white theme. The built in WiFi works extremely well. Easy to install. Looks clean. Bios is great. No complaints!

Storage

This little thing is a beast. My windows boots in under 5 seconds, no OC. It's fantastic. Want to buy another one to store my games.

Case

Love the white! Black is overdone, and I really wanted a red/white/black theme. I've been wanting an R5 for years now, and I'm super happy with it. Of course the R6 now comes out with a power shroud! :P Oh well, great case none the less. Easy to work with, and definitely easy to make it work for you.

Monitor

This monitor...wow. I went back and forth between Asus 24" screens and getting two, or getting an UltraWide. I'm Ultra happy I went with this screen. Resolution is CRISP. Especially once you calibrate the monitor.

Keyboard

I first purchased the G213 Prodigy gaming board, and wasn't satisfied with the software, nor that the wrist wrest was built in. This keyboard is great. Customize your RGB right down to individual keys. The roller for the volume is great. I love that the media buttons are more uniform on this keyboard.

Mouse

This mouse is fantastic. I did some research and went back and forth between this G502 and some other brands. This one came out on top. For the extra $30CAD it wasn't worth getting the other G502 just for some fancy RGB. Great mouse. You can create three profiles to save them, and by far an outstanding FPS gaming mouse!

Speakers

My wife bought these for me as a gift, and they have some thump! I love 'em. I have always liked Logitech product, and for what I use them for they do the job!

Great build for a first go....Nothing wrong with your choices as I can more than understand on the re-using parts ALA WD Green...its a must unless you have lots of money...The motherboard looks really nice and with the white GPU and Power supply, perfect. The M.2 will make a huge difference as well and you wont have to worry on RAM as you have 32GB...you can never have enough is my view...Well done. PS you can never go overboard!!! so long as it makes you happy...

+1 Nice build! You definitely went overkill on the psu but I would assume you bought it because its white. Flip the psu so fan is facing down. I know the fan wont start spinning until 40% load.....

Those WD green are perfectly fine and you already had them so no need to spend more on storage drives.. :)

Yeah it's overkill but I wanted white haha, and the fan is facing down. Thanks much

Yep for some reason my brain registered photo 10 which has the psu with fan facing up.. :)

Hi! i'm building almost the same computer just missing the gpu, i wanted to ask about the performance for editing in 1080p and 4k... some pleople say that gtx1060 3gb wouldn´t be enough but im hesitant... what can you tell me about the editing experience? thanx

beardedmisfit submitter 5 Builds 1 point 16 months ago

I use photoshop and adobe premier all the time for editing and photo enhancement, i've had ZERO issues. it's a great gpu and i have no complaints. 2 hdmi, 2 dp, and 1 dvi d, is more than what you need for editing and 4k

I would've suggested going with a b350 board, as the x370 features(SLI and slightly higher overclocks) aren't really being utilised here, and 350 are usually $50-100 less for the same USB and SATA

I appreciate the feedback. First build I didn't do as much research as I should have; I'll openly admit that. I have a B350 I'm looking at to change things up. Thanks

I wanted to add a touch of red to it. And I want to try some online gaming.

Hey, great build. However, for the tasks you said and even some gaming you paid way too much. Also, if you can get a ryzen 1600 and upgrade that gpu to a 1060 6gb
