Unfinished because an important piece, the graphics card is missing, guess what with z170 coming and a slight cost overrun on account of cooler will have to wait for a month or so.

Just as was about to commit to buying z97, z170 was announced and I decided to go for the new platform. Surprisingly parts in India were available at about the same time as rest of the world(except for DDR4 memory). One reason of delay on my part was the question of how to migrate to Windows 10. One very surprising thing - - when I was resigned to do a fresh install (since my earlier socket was 775), due to some reason I booted straight into my hard drive and my old (775 based) windows 7 operating system. Of course the display resolution etc was bad but after installation of new (z170 based) drivers everything worked ok. No need for fresh install. The problem happened when migrating to win 10, I was successful only after 3/4 attempts. At one point the installation got stuck for more then half hour you have to be patient and see it through. After all that I had to spend another half hour chatting with Microsoft to activate win 10.

Just added Asus STRIX GTX 960 graphics card.

Just added Samsung 950 pro 256GB. See part review below for more details.

Part Reviews

No cooler here so the actual cost of possession is quiet higher compared to let's say 4690k, good standard processor not yet overclocked.

CPU Cooler

Easy to install back plate and radiator, while putting in the pump have to apply a little force to the pipes. For this particular case (NZXT S340) I did not want hot air blowing over mobo, but this meant the top fan would have to be pushing air in the case and because the case has no filter on the top side I settled the pull push way. The pump whines loudly at 100% speed, even a little less i.e @90% the pump and fans are silent, I have seen to it that 100% kicks in only at 70 degrees.

Nice mobo with led, without any additional tpu epu switches for additional confusion. For the heck of it used the new gizmo processor installation tool, there is no way you can get the processor inside the tool without touching the pins on the back, but was ok, and you get a solid location over the socket. Sadly they are not giving the Q connector.

Good to look, good to overclock, no problem working at the displayed speed.

Historically I was using MBR disk and when windows 10 came the samsung clone software made the 950 pro also into an MBR disk. My boot times were far from satisfactory. However benchmark tests did show that I got almost all the speeds as advertised. Finally decided to clean install windows 10 (and GPT). And what a difference in boot time that made. A few mobo settings needs to be tweaked else everything is auto.

Nice solid case for the price. The side panels feel solid. But there are a few gripes, the plastic window is very easily scratchable. Hard drive installation is possible only one side (screws from the front). Even the SSD mounting is not possible using an L connector as it interferes (at least with my SSD) other then that wire routing, looks etc was superb.

I'm also in India where the hell did you get the skylake parts . I've hell been wanting them but can't find them or I have to pay like $400 import duty

It depends on where you are, if you are near about mumbai and the western region try this site www.primeabgb.com, for mumbai they even have COD, I got my parts from here. If you are in the south try www.theitdepot.com. DDR4 memory is a major problem there is a delay of around 15-20 days from primeabgb, I got mine from newegg it worked out to be cheaper then local (since no custom duty was applied)

Curiosity, how is it running of the 530 HD Graphics?

mahiyar submitter 1 Build 2 points 43 months ago

No great shakes, though currently Iam not into heavy gaming I feel the performance seems equivalent to HD6300's.

System looks awesome! Love the lighting and cable management _^

Just a heads up, I noticed you mentioned the hard drives only being secured from the front, and unless you've got an older revision of the case or something there are holes on the back side of the drive cage that can let you secure the drive properly. It's a little hard to see with the power supply in but I assure you it's possible. I had to mount a 2.5in drive in a 3.5" adapter and wasn't happy with the bounciness of the top mount (SSD) area. Grab a flashlight and double check. Proper orientation (label facing up) is necessary too just in case.

Well I have Asus GTX strix 960 in mind, a much underrated card and nice value for money, unless some newer card comes and prices of 970 goes down.

Haha true, this build is unfinished but I'am certainly able to use it. Hope later when I get my graphics card I'am able to change the name :)
