Description

So this is my first self done build after my last rig which a friend did for me gave up the ghost all at once early this year. Since then I have been saving and saving and watching as the additional patience was tempered with rewards as the Nvidia 10 series loomed on the horizon and the cost of Skylake CPUs fell.

Once I had enough I began to order parts in and at this time the shortage of the 1080 chips knock on effect with companies like Asus, EVGA, Gigabyte etc has got my choice of GPU a Zotac Amp! Extreme on what seems to be a long waiting line.

Alas while it is the heart of a gaming PC I had all I needed to get underway so here we go!

Case: Unlike the majority of gamers I can't stand windows on Cases so when I found the NZXT H440 I thought I was seeing things! Best of all I LOVE it's sleek yet minimalist style and the sound proofing is a nice bonus also!

Fans: Upon getting the panels of the case I immediatly took out all the stock fans (Had bad experience with NZXT fans) and replaced them with Noiseblocker B12-P which are PWM controlled. I will admit I love the mounting system it gives you the benefit of a silicon or rubber holding pin with the security of a screw!

CPU: I most likely won't overclock the CPU but in case I do decide to I felt it best to go with the I5 6600K as it is MORE than adequate for my needs.

Mobo: Needless to say I paid close attention to my case when picking this since the way the vents are setup on the H440 does have a slight impact on air cooling so what better than a mother board which assists in cooling but with as little force so as not to cause dead spots and be rugged as f**k to boot! This will also help with the Zotac Amp Extreme which would be a bit of a sagging card without the extra support the Z170 Mark 1 supplies.

RAM: Let's all be honest here you will not need more than 16GB unless your doing some VERY heavy production stuff also for the price these have pretty decent timings and the plug and play functionality is a handy little trick!

CPU Cooler: It's big it's awesome IT'S THE CRYORIG R1 ULTIMATE! ehem sorry but you can't deny that the R1 is a beast of a cooler and the way it uses turbulence is pretty damn smart and works well and the mounting system is on par with that of Noctuas! What is better is it fits into the fairly compact H440 with room to spare! Note: It does loom over the DIMMS a bit so only use very low profile ram like Vengeance LPX

GPU: Waiting on it but will update upon install

Storage: I have two Samsung 850 Evo after having great experiences with them in my last build a 120GB for my OS and a 1TB for all those lovely games!

PSU: The EVGA 850 P2 was my choice of PSU as I was told having a decent chunk of extra wattage can be helpful if you ever go for bigger builds while this is less relevant since Skylake uses less power than it's predecessor and power needs seem to keep going down I still wanted to play it safe. Note: The cables are very nicely sleeved which helps make cable management look great!

OS: Windows 10 installed with no issues not much to say here really.

All in all I am pretty pleased with how it has come together for the most part since this is my first time building by myself. Now all I need to do is wait for my Amp Extreme to show up and I can leap back into online gaming once again beware multiplayer games my rebirth is imminent!

Oh I love them my old rig had some OCZ Agility 3 in it but these are so much quicker and with a snappy cpu like the skylakes phew! Just good stuff man :D

Installed a few in other friends builds as despite large hands I am very good with wires and noticed the jump in speed!

Helps that my OS has it's own drive too so that means much slower wearing down :)

It is pretty nice well the newer version is the first one had some cooling issues but give this fan some nice fans with balance static and airflow and she will not get too hot :)

Yeah I'm looking at adding a couple upgraded fans to mine as well.

Do it the airflow isn't terrible but fans like the ones I have are a welcome increase.

Best aircooling layout is with 120mm

3 in front of H440, 1 in the back of the top and 1 at the exhaust and allinged with CPU cooler.

Great Build man. That cryorig CPU cooler looks BA. What kind of temps do you get with it? might consider getting one!

Holding of on talk of temps until I have my GPU in as the lack of would make the results inaccurate but in terms of no GPU not seen my CPU go above 25c so far.

Darnit, and I have Ripjaws. May have to replace their heatspreaders to get clearance for that cooler...
