Daily driver with a lot of kick when you need it.

My first build was T-Sled MkI (Gen 1 Core i7 with XFX card) which lasted me about 10 years. Hopefully I can keep this one current for quite a while too!

Planning to use this one for games, editing, modeling, and engineering design.

Moderate OC on the video card and cpu right now seems to help with gaming framerate. Further tweaking may move them up or down.

I planned this build for a while and finally pulled the trigger during the memorial and 4th sales when all the hardware was on sale. Let me know what you think!

Part Reviews


Landed on the 2700 as it was about $130 less than the 2700x at the time. Still 16 threads with lots of OC headroom. Yes, Intel chips run faster, but this is a less expensive locomotive compared to most chips.

The wraith sprire that came with this was more than adequate for stock speeds. While very attractive with it's LED ring and AMD logo it had an odd frequency of noise at moderate load.

So can you OC with the stock spire cooler? Yes, but... it depends. The Tomahawk board has a game mode where the fans rev up and push the 2700 chip to 3.65 GHz (from 3.2Ghz) and it runs a bit hot for my liking. If you go further than that, the cooler's limit is hit and you'll be in the mid to high 80s real quick under load. The 3.8 Ghz stable OC with auto voltage I have on the system now worked for about 5 seconds of benchmarking on the stock cooler before locking up.

I realize the silicon lottery has a say in this, but if you're planning to OC, I would suggest getting an aftermarket cooler.

CPU Cooler

The cooler, while not reviewed much, is actually pretty great at cooling and blends in perfectly with the B450 Tomahawk. As I wrote in the build description, my last build was run for 10 years. Now...I have many hobbies and I'd rather not spend time changing out or maintaining water cooling systems and then have potentially re-engineer a solution mid-life. With an air cooler, just simply use compressed air to clean. The case/cooler combo here does not interfere with anything...and I mean anything. You can still access: headers, NVME drive, RAM, etc.

Overall, I think this cooler is under-rated, but it may just need some time to come into it's own.


Pretty great board for a moderate OC. Came as part of a Promo. The Mystic Light Sync works well and features two RGB sockets (can be spit of course). Works great for syncing a LED strip with AMD LED coolers! VRMs seem pretty solid as well.

I will note that during the course of my research it was difficult to locate RGB RAM that was on the official compatibility list for this board. I'm sure it's out there, but the Vengence LPX listed below seems to be the go-to for AMD machines these days.


The ram doesn't seem to like being overclocked; possibly due to some additional timing adjustments I need to look into. Overall, inexpensive and solid for AMD.


This is the future! Insanely fast, even relative to a SATA SSD! Windows boots almost instantly from full off state. Was concerned about getting the non-heat sink version, but the drive never gets over 45C when running synthetic tests.

This drive is probably the most future-proof portion of this build.


Very snappy drive! Using for game and media storage at the moment. Seems to work faster than the 840 I transferred from the MkI build (contains Linuz boot currently for when I get tired of Windows).

Video Card

Tried an RX580 first and then decided the card needed bumped up to balance with the rest of the build. The Vega makes the case a bit hotter, but it doesn't falter a bit when subjected to 1080p high-framerate on ultra settings. Insanely good value at the time of purchase ($299).

Note that the card is big! It actually blocks access to some SATA ports on the MOBO. (Would need to remove card and use an angled connector to make use of those ports in the future).


Light years ahead of the ULTRA case I used for T-Sled MKI. There is a great amount of organization, shrouding, and mounting options. The swing arm on the side allows for clean mounting of 3 2.5" SSDs without a problem. The two 3.5" bays at the bottom can get a little cluttered with cables. Some people simply removed the cages, but I left them in place as I may add more storage soon. I've seen people do AIO and custom water cooling in these, but I would personally prefer a bit more space as this is a mid-tower.

I will say I spent more time on making things look nice having the TG viewing window. If you have a mash of colors in your build, that can be...well, an eyesore, the sold panel variant is always an option. Please note that some RGB is necessary for the dark TG as you may not be able to see much without some type of case lighting.

One important note. I tried several fan configurations and there wasn't much difference, but I will say adding fans to the top made no observable difference. As such, the top would be great for an AIO setup if you plan to go that route.

Fractal sells different color grills for the front of the case. I colored this one with some spray paint, and I don't have any regrets.

Power Supply

Did some research and found these to be very slightly more reliable than Corsair supplies. Was also on sale with rebate. Cable quality is top-notch!

Case Fan

Case came with two of these and added one more. I did try two Fractal HF-14 fans up front and while they did blow more air, they were louder and did not make a noticeable impact on temperature. The GP-12s are very quiet fans that are balanced between flow and pressure. I'm sure there are better options, but these work great for me.


At the time of writing this I'll give it 5 because there is a lot of setup to get things looking the way you want. If not for tinkering beyond the factory settings, 3.5 stars.

The frame is a very high build quality. Monitors are probably the most subjective thing, so to each their own. The high framerate and response time, couple with the curve gives an immersive experience nonetheless.


Was the cheapest mechanical RGB keyboard I could find. Setting up custom key RGB is tricky and requires trial and error. The keys felt weird initially, but are feeling much better now that there are some miles on the odometer. For less than $40, you cannot go wrong.


Bought on sale based on reviews from a friend. Fits my hand well and has programmable lighting and 4 additional mouse buttons.

Just leave your 2700 at stock. It will boost up to 4.1 on a single core, and around 3.8-4.0 all core depending on thermals/voltage limitations. If you want to overclock it, look into PBO overclocking. I'm not sure if that board supports it, but it has a decent VRM, and should be capable.

Right now, if I set the multiplier to auto and have the PBO enabled, the cores run at about 3400 in games and other multi-threaded workloads. It will bump to 4100 on single threads. I'll have to research the advanced setting associated with manual PBO.

hi op. don't listen to davegreen. 2700 def needs an oc. I have mine at all core 4.0ghz with 1.3V. 2700 will never boost to all core 4.0ghz by itself, around 3.4-3.5ghz all cores stock w/ pbo. Your cooler should also allow you to oc to 4.0ghz all cores easily. the 2700x shouldn't be oc'd, but 2700 def should be

Very cool! Looks like we had the same basic idea for our builds. Did you OC your Vega 56? This is what I'm running in MSI Afterburner right now. Like the 2700, I haven't played with the voltage...yet. Have had no issues so far.

For Vega cards, it is better to just use Wattman in amd settings instead of MSI Afterburner. And yes, I undervolted my V56 first to reduce heat, then I slowly overclocked and adjusted voltage as needed. For comparison, my current settings scores 15% higher in Heaven Benchmark than stock balanced mode. Take a look at this video for how to tune Vega 56 cards.

ps: definitely try to overclock your 2700. All 2700 should be able to achieve 4.0ghz at 1.3V (with a good cooler).

Another thing to note is that for Vega cards, setting a speed does not mean it will run at that speed. So you'll need to play around with voltage to hit 1600mhz and keep temps under control. You can use monitoring software to see gpu clocks while gaming and adjust if needed. If you are lucky and received a Samsung memory vega 56, you can flash to vega 64 bios and push your memory clock beyond 1000mhz, which will give a nice performance boost. (I got Hynix memory, sad face)

Came here for the Fuma 2. You're the only one on pcpartpicker with one so far. It looks pretty nice. How's the sound? The first Fuma has a reputation for great silence. Wondering if the skinny front fan changes that at all.

Never had one of the earlier ones, but compared to a stock AMD Wraith Spire cooler, it is quieter at idle and a lot quieter at full load. It's in a Meshify C case right now (pretty open) and I can't even hear the computer over normal background noise.

Overall, I would say the cooler is very under-rated.

Have the same board and cpu and was researching the Fuma 2 and stumbled upon your build. Really like the look of the cooler with the Tomahawk. Did you ever do a manual oc with the Fuma and how did it turn out? Curious to try the same thing.

Does the cooler cut off the first ram slot at all? hard to tell from the pictures.
