When we first build our computers, we always wish that we could always build that dream PC. The PC that we could spend a couple thousand on, and still be prideful of what it looks like.

Finally, after saving up the money for a bunch of parts, I built this machine. I bet you're thinking damn, this guy must be a baller. Unfortunately that is not the case. I am a full time college student just saving up for my PC upgrade. On top of that, a lot of these parts are recycled.

I decided on the parts because of pure performance and aesthetic.

The GTX 770's in SLI are cooled by Corsair H55's with the NZXT G10 bracket, and keep the GPU's cool and quiet.

The RocketRaid card is used for 2 separate raid arrays for photo backup (I'm a photographer).

The way my SSD's are set up is like this: 128gb - OS / Boot Essential Programs 240gb - Programs / Games, etc. 240gb - Scratch for photo editing / Temp 500GB WD HDD - personal file storage 750gb Seagate HDD - Excess file storage (movies, etc).

Notes on the build: Why not Z97? I did not want to get Z97 because I would personally have to wait for the Haswell refresh. I did not get the parts in this build at the prices that the website says because I got them in deals (I'm just too lazy to edit it).

Why is it so expensive? Items marked as "purchased" were previously owned. A lot of these parts are recycled. SSD, HDDs, Monitors.

Why not custom watercooling? The reason for not getting a custom watercooling kit is because I did not want to throw extra money into the waterblocks, or opt for the 780ti's. In addition to that, I move a lot from college to home and having to drain my PC would be a pain in the butt. But the main reason for not getting custom watercooling was because i would probably lose my drive cage. Unfortunately, I cannot put a server (aka NAS PC, or HTPC combo) where I live in college as I would be the only one to utilize it, so I might as well put the drives in my PC.

Some parts not listed in this build are the Silverstone Tek white sleeved cables (EPS, 4x PCIe, 24PIN Mobo).

well hey, who am i to complain? it's an incredibly good-looking system and i can tell you're proud of it. i like how you've divvied up the storage spaces and physically labelled the drives.

How is the G930? any problems ? if so, did you find a solution? would yu recommend it ?

The G930 is amazing. I have been using it for the past 4 years. Sound is decent, but I'm not a crazy audiophile.

Logitech has decent support so I am on my 3rd headset. The plastic hinges broke on me once, and I think that the battery completely died but they replaced it. Also, the leather wears down eventually, but it's fine.

I would recommend it highly besides. Logitech's 1 year warranty is pretty solid.

you have been using it for 4 years ? wow, any tips to extend its lifecycle ? like beware of that plastic part or avoid bumping that weak hinge ?

Yupp. I haven't used the same headset for 4 years but the same model. Logitech replaced them for me basically. I think its inevitable to break this set.

Forgot to tell ya that this build ROCKS!!! I want to upgrade from the 410 phantom to this case so bad!!! Just don't know if I am ready to pay 185$ just yet for the case.. plus 90$ for the sleeved kit by EVGA ugh... Expenses huh?

The phantom is a case I highly considered when I was building but this one definitely takes aesthetics to a new level. Maybe look at the Silverstone tek sleeved cable extensions?

I see the silverstone sleeved cables but then I have to piece them together. I find myself drawn to the EVGA sleeved cables because you can buy the whole set as one you know?

Wouldn't the regular silver ring on the H105 fit the build better? Also how are your VRM temps? I hear that the tiny fan on the G10 doesn't really cool VRMs properly...

And one more thing, about Z97 you said that you didn't want to wait for Haswell Refresh. You can still use a 4770K on Z97 and all other Haswell v1 chips...it's never too late to take that board back and swap it for a Z97 board...it works exactly the same and you get the benefit of SATAe, M.2 (if implemented), improved SRT, and others.

Good, but you kind of skimped out on the processor. With 32gbs of 2133MHz RAM, I would have gone with at least a 4930k, which, to be honest, wouldn't be much of a price difference with level of parts. 16gb of RAM would have been fine, but if you really need it (which you really probably won't) then thats ok.

Well, I would, by no means, say that the 4770k is underkill, but mixed with the other parts in your build, it does seem a bit "lower grade", if you will. It's a much better computer than I'm using, so it is definitely not a bad build.

I would have gone for that but it's an extra $200, and I just decided to overclock. I opted for 32gbs because I use the PC for various Video/Photo editing purposes.

On top of that, I just like keeping things open so I don't have to wait.

I would have loved the 4930K, but I was happy enough to get the 4770k since it can overclock & has 4 cores 8 threads @ 3.5, but I OC'd to 4.0 to match the 4990k. Still, I think I will is it a little more to 4.4ghz depending on my usage.

Is the 2GB VRAM limiting? Most people seem to buy 3/4GB GPUs for 3 monitors.

You would not have had to wait for the Haswell Refresh with the Z97? A 4770K is compatible with it and future proofs it even farther.

Yeah the 1150 socket is compatible, but I wouldn't be able to take full advantage of other offerings with the Haswell Refresh.

I didn't see too much of an advantage in the board, and I got this board at a significantly cheaper price.

I would suggest getting some Corsair SP fans to put on your rads. You will get some better temps because those are designed to be put on rads. Overall nice build though. +1

I'm loving that 760T more and more. Seems like a good alternative to the InWin 904 for full-window builds.

They're pretty cool! Kraken G10 brackets which allow you to mount CPU cooling units that use Asetek mounting systems to your GPUs for better cooling.

People used to do this homebrew with zip ties or community-created brackets. NZXT partnered with a guy named "Dwood" from OCN who actually designed such brackets in order to bring these to the market in an official product. And it just happens that NZXT's coolers all use the Asetek mounting system.

Hey did you have no problem with the water cooling installation at the top? Some people say the top cover blocks the air flow to the radiator. Is that true?

How do you like the Logitech G930? I had so many interference problems with mine I had to return them. They would never stay connected for more than 30 seconds and I couldn't find a fix online.

I am modifying my latest build with another 280x and was thinking about g10s with crossfire. How loud are your h55's? and are they in front while your cpu radiator is in back? i will essentially have three kraken x41s with two of them for gpu's if I want to pursue this. Two in the front and one in the rear, but the rear one already gets noisy...

My Dream build would have that 14 core Xeon in it and 6 6TB HDDs in Raid 5 :D But all be Air cooled by a NH-D15 in a Rosewill Throne case with 3 ASUS 4K G-Sync 144Hz Panels 1ms lag, and 2 Titan Zs :) Dreams can be outrageous though... Great Job on the build!

that is like freaking the best computer ever. with a lot of useless stuff for the normal user. and maybe even for the dream pc. and sadly. it is still not the most expensive computer in pcpartpicker. but it is totally awesome. you could have saved some money by shopping around,

A lot of these parts are recycled (mostly drives and monitors).

The prices in this do NOT reflect what I got the parts for, but I will try my best to edit them to reflect that.

Oh.my.god why??? Why did you spend THAT much money on the Hard Drive's? You could have bought some good 80$ Hard Drives or maybe 120$ Hard Drive's and instead used the money on two better graphics cards... I don't even understand why you need that much space any way, just 3TB should be enough for many, many movies, programs and games.

In the past I have had a lot of drives crash and because of that I choose the raid array and my work flow cycle. I already filled one array of 2TB. While I could have opted for 780ti's, a lot of these drives were old ones that I owned so I am just excycling.

A lot of these parts are recycled.

The new parts are the ram, case, PSU, mobo, raid controller, cpu, 2x240gb SSDs.
