Part Reviews

Great CPU, it has been awesome for me!

CPU Cooler

Cools very well, fans are pretty loud but that is not an issue for me. I like the 3rd fan that sits on top of the CPU, whether or not it is needed I am not sure, but if anything it provides a little more airflow around the CPU, GPU, and RAM.

I really like this motherboard, the M.2 slot is a huge plus.

SSDs are amazing, especially the M.2 style. Samsung makes a quality drive.

This was a gift and works perfect for extra storage for my photos/videos/music.

Video Card

This card was the top of the line card when I purchased it and it is still a great card almost 2 years later.

Love the size of this case and that you can see into the PC. There are no 3.5" expansion slots but that was not a concern for me as I don't need an optical drive and the two 2.5" expansion slots are enough for me. I would like to upgrade to the S340 Elite at some point in the future.

Power Supply

Great PSU, the cables are all black which is nice.

Wireless Network Adapter

I have had solid performance from this at a pretty long range in an old house with thick walls.

Great monitor for the price, 1ms and 75Hz is a plus!

I love this keyboard, this is my first mechanical keyboard and it is a huge difference. The RGB features are also really in depth and fun to play with. CUE is a nice tool.

This mouse is great and has nice settings to mess around with the DPI and RGB settings. It has two buttons on the left that are nice for gaming, and you can easily switch between 5 different DPI settings.

Really nice wireless headset for the money, battery life has been great for me. I like how the boom rotates up and mutes itself when in the up position. The headphones rotate in as well. CUE is a nice tool to mess around with the EQ settings.

External Storage

Solid back up drive.

Is it just me or does that gpu sag look dangerously bad.

mrwerner22 submitter 1 Build 1 point 33 months ago

I noticed that, but wasn't really sure what to think about it because this is my first build. I just did some researching online, it looks like people have used fishing line, legos, etc.. to hold it up. Would you suggest anything specific to fix the sag?

Hmmmmmmm, Im not sure.

This isn't a joke btw, maybe you used the wrong pcie spot on the case

mrwerner22 submitter 1 Build 1 point 33 months ago

I didn't think it was a joke. I'll have to see if I can use the lower slot, thanks.

I know I'm 4 months late, but I would try to find a posable action figure or something that's just the right hight. It will hold up your Strix card and add a bit of personality to the build as well.

btw what I meant was the pcie slot on your mobo is fine but maybe (btw this is impossible) you screwed into the wrong hole on the case.

also, wireless cables is right, lego or an actual gpu supportbracket would work.

Hey, just wondering, what do you mean your TridentZ wasn't compatible? As far as I'm aware, its the same as any other RAM, mainly with improved aesthetics. Your motherboard does have 3200 support, so what was your issue? :P

mrwerner22 submitter 1 Build 1 point 28 months ago

Not entirely sure, but it wouldn't boot up with the TridentZ. So I looked into it and the only thing I could find was in the manual for the motherboard there is a list of qualified vendors where it lists which RAM sticks it supports for each speed, and the TridentZ wasn't listed. If you are interested you can go here (http://dlcdnet.asus.com/pub/ASUS/mb/LGA1151/MAXIMUS_VIII_HERO/E10343_MAXIMUS_VIII_HERO_UM_WEB.pdf) and look down to page 1-13 I believe.
