Description

Update time! I could not get the the top card to stop hitting 80 degrees in intensive games with the limited airflow of the air 240 case. I also had a problem where the motherboard wouldn't power one of my case fans after waking from sleep. I I have an unused replacement from gigabyte, but am going in a different direction with this build. So I am rebuilding in the enthoo luxe and will be posting pictures soon. Whatever I don't use will be for sale. Contact me of you are interested at lurch_chs@hotmail.com. I will ship anywhere in the USA.

Had to shim the backplate of the h80i to get good contact with the IHS of the processor, and modify the voltages to get the i7 to run properly. For some reason intel/gigabyte was supplying way too much voltage to the processor stock. Like so much it would instantly shut off if i tried running the avx2 instruction set. Got that handled, painted the fan shrouds on the gpu's and replaced the thermal compound on the h80i and the gpu's with tuniq, and used corsair link to tie different fan speeds to specific component temperatures. Runs like a champ now!

Nice build. Its amazing how much stuff fits into the Air 240.

Any issues with heat and the 2 way sli?

I also had to bring my voltage down with my z97 asus mobo and i7-4790k. Mine was trying to run at 1.35v, I tuned mine down to 1.19 and it brought the temps way down.

Very nice !!!! How are your temps?

it depends on what you think temps should be at. I've gotten the cpu at 24C at idle and 72C while being stress tested at 100% usage. The 970's sit at 65C and 80C while gaming. The top card has problems breathing, but after tying the intake fan in front of the cards and the 80mm exhaust to the top cards temps through corsair link, they don't throttle their speeds to keep the temps down. Overall I'm happy with it now seeing as they are factory overclocked cards and they are maintaining their overclock.

Sounds like the temps are pretty much on par for the SLI setup. I kinda figured the top card might have higher temps with no real room for air to get to it.

I love the white graphics cards

Thank you! Apparently white plastidip and a couple coats of plastidip glossifier match the air 240's finish pretty well.

that's one sexy build!! Although, I think painting the GPUs red to match your MOBO would've looked much better

I wanted to go white and blue with this build and couldn't find a mobo to match. It was either this, a red and black msi, or a yellow and black asrock. That being said, it is plastidip and should peel right off if I want to change it.

Damn, you made one beautiful machine. I don't care that its overkill, you sir, are awesome. I'm starting to feel inferior compared to what you just made.

On the bright side, people were saying my rig was overkill.

How is the TP-Link Archer usb 3.0 adapter working out for you? I was looking into getting something for my laptop.

great! Best one I've used so far. Though admittedly I use Ethernet more than wireless on average.
