Description

I built this ITX browsing/entertainment machine for my folks in early 2013 after I had moved on my own and taken my desktop PC with me. I recently added a second hand GTX 650 ti I got for 60€ because I lived there for a few weeks while moving to new place and wanted to game properly.

I decided to leave the card in since the mobo is infamous for the VRM catching fire, which is linked to using the integrated graphics (though it has lasted 2 years already). The mobo was the only itx FM2 model in stock at the time and it's faults weren't knows yet. I further reduced the risk of toasting the board by undervolting the cpu and turning turbocore off. Originally I got them the A10 chip cause it wasn't much more expensive than its cheaper counterparts and for a bit of future proofing.

The rest of it is pretty much standard good quality yet affordable stuff and SSD is for a nice speedy experience.

The build originally had a vector (non-150) SSD but I had to RMA it and the pictures were taken during that time and there is an old 2.5" HDD from an old laptop in the pics.

Nice build, I would have changed that Hard Drive to a Seagate ST1000DM003. But overall thats a class build. +1

Yeah wouldn't have been my first choice but the WD green was actually from an old external HDD that was just lying around so I put it to good use. The 120gb SSD would really be sufficient but it's good to have copies of important stuff :)

Yeah the psu section looks pretty terrible but I really didn't have the energy to mess around there too much since the cables there aren't really in the way. The cables next to the CPU cooler aren't as much in the way as seems in the picture since its just one sata cable and sata power for the DVD and then a fan in the roof (which I actually moved to front after taking the pics).

Whats the point of so much hardware and cooling for entertainment and browsing?

Well like I said in the description the 650 ti wasn't in the original build and the true spirit is there just for silence since the 5800k is a 100W TPD CPU so the stock cooler (non-heatpide model) is very noisy and the TS90m cost just over 20€ so it wasn't that expensive. It looks pretty silly mounted that way but could't be mounted pointing to back of the case beacause of the AMD socket on this mobo. Otherwise it just has the two stock fans that came with the case.

Pretty overkill by ASUS for such a low power card anyways :D
