Description

Built this thing up for almost two years now and I can confidently say it's finally finished. Used to have a terrible color scheme, but one day I decided to make it look like it costs! Added some Fallout stuff just for fun.

To keep the gold theme, I used Plasti Dip with a matte black base and topcoat mixed with gold pearls. I painted the PCIE slot covers, PSU cover, CPU cooler front and GPU aluminum accents. The gold vinyl Brotherhood of Steel stickers were from amazon, some fans are taped with gold scotch expressions and the gold power armor POP! is from ebay.

The processor is delidded so my temps are nice and low with 4.7ghz stable. The gpu gets to about 2088mhz core and the ram is overclocked to 2666 CL11.

Yeah I could honestly use some tips on cable management from you. I mean, it all looks nice in the front of my case, but once you get to the back it is a mess. Do you have any tips for me? I find that it's hard to get around stuff when I have all these cables in the way. Would you recommend I order custom-length cables for my PSU?

  • 1 point

what case do you have? i know a lot about cases.

  • 1 point

I have a Lian-Li PC-08. Anyway, I spent 2 hours this morning trying to make it clean in the back. I unplugged all my cables and zip tied, twist tied, and used sticky cable clips so it looks a lot better in the back now, and I'm happy now.

  • 1 point

Yeah it takes soo long... nice case though. Wish I had that one.

Used the liquid ultra and silicon pasted the IHS back on . yeah, the liquid ultra is amazing. dropped me near 15c maximum temps.

  • 2 points

15c maximum temps
maximum
MAXIMUM?
MAXIMUM?!?!

  • 1 point

ohhh bad wording on my part haha. i meant it lowered my temps around 15c less than the original maximum before the delid. 2 hours of fallout gets me at about 52c. prime95 can go up to 79. pretty darn good for a 212 evo/i7 combo.

  • 1 point

Jeez... I didn't think it would have made that big a difference, I was thinking 5-10c.

  • 1 point

yupp. heres a post i did with results a while ago:

http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/id-2870601/4790k-delid-results-huge-difference.html

hottest core dropped 16c max.

  • 1 point

Was wondering why your temps were so high, then saw the OC. oh.... lol

  • 1 point

Yeah 79c is only on p95. Real world is around 52c with games like fallout.

  • 1 point

Nice, gr8 to hear that for you, I personally use Gelid Extreme as it's easier to work with and I am too scared to delid the cpu :P

  • 2 points

Looks great, need to get a better cooler to truly unlock that 4790K.

  • 1 point

Surprisingly the 212 Evo is plenty. Since I did the delid my Temps are great at 1.25v@4.7 ghz. 4.8ghz puts me at 1.3v which is too close to the recommended max in my opinion. I opted to keep the voltage down. I mean .1 or .2 more ghz won't make or break it, especially considering another good cooler is at least $60 more and I'll have to repaint it.

  • 2 points

Fair enough. Could always go with a be quiet dark cooler but that may not be good for the color scheme overall. I have had a couple of Cryorig coolers and they look pretty slick as well.

I didn't see that you had de-lidded the CPU, I'm sure that helps quite a bit.

Thanks!

This is the desk HERE. Combined two of them.

Also bought the rest of the set:

THIS and THIS

Clearence in-store at staples. Desks were $50 each, Printer stand $35, Book Case $45.

  • 1 point

Are they meant to be able to be combined? Or did you have to do any types of modification to fit two of the desks together?

Nah they are not meant to be combined, but no modification needed at all.

You mean the gold color?

  • 1 point

Yeah, want to paint red for this :http://pcpartpicker.com/list/wtXTHN

  • 1 point

Red is a lot easier than the gold I did. You won't need a top coat. Just buy red plasti dip from home Depot or amazon. The aluminum accents on the card come off with a normal hexadecimal wrench. Plasti dip is a rubberized coating. It looks great and it peels off completely like it was never there. Good for warranty returns.

  • 1 point

definitely the evga one. i particularly bought that one because of how easy the accents are to remove. other ones may need to be disassembled a lot more. i can cover up the work by removing the peelable plasti dip. the manufacturer will be able to tell if you reapplied new thermal paste on a more complicated mod. i wouldn't mess with the warranty on a $450 part.

Loved the gold color. Liked the desk setup. (Clips for wire managenment, ok, been there.) BUT... Beats and Bose where they can see each other? ARRGGH. Then there's no shock mount and arm for the mic. AARRGGHH... Still, a gold computer is unique... +1

Have a boom stand, it's just attached to that small stand for computer use. Comepletely understand the beats thing though haha. I was very reluctant to buy them but it was just such a good deal. $75 beats wireless studio $80 bose qc25, both proces after tax. Msrp = $670 before tax. Beats are literally for gym use only, that's just where I keep em. Use monitor speakers 100% of the time anyway. Thanks for +1.

  • 1 point

The fans for this case are 2 front (1included) 3 top 1 rear (1included) 2 bottom and 2 for hdd So out of 10 fans 2 are included so 8 required Do u really need six case fans for this case Where have u placed them...top rear front? How do u keep some fans for intake and others for exhaust I want to use noctua fans pls help me

  • 1 point

the included fans are plenty ant their location is fine. there's no reason to add more. spend money on better components, not fans. upgrade later only if you actually have a problem with heat.

side note, i added more because i have 7 hard drives. i doubt that is the case for you.

  • 1 point

OK I will keep the front and rear stock fans as such and use single Cougar Vortex PWM 70.5 CFM 120mm 1500 RPM Fan at the top as exhaust Are the stock fans at front and rear kept as intake or exhaust by the manufacturer and are they pwm fans? What is the RPM of stock fans? I am trying to get positive air pressure pls help me

They have completely separate programability. You can double the number of live track control, use one as a mixer and one for tracks, use both as instrument pads, any mix of things really.

[comment deleted by staff]
  • 1 point

I do more than 8 track lanes, so it helps not having to shift the pad down. I just constantly have 16 lanes. I like playing the stuff live more.
