Description

My mother has been using an (admittedly quite good) Gateway laptop for the past six years. This year, for her birthday, I decided to make her a new PC. Because I have a problem. It will run fast, she can stream her shows and films in 4K, do her productivity without having to worry, and even a bit of light gaming. She told me several months ago she would love something that could do all this, but be relatively small and portable, able to access the 5 GHz WiFi,, last for as long as that laptop did, and have a cool black and red colour scheme. Judging from her reaction, I'd say "Mission Accomplished".

Happy Birthday Mom!

So glad to see this. I love it when people take care of their relatives. I'm certain your mom is loving it and hope she had a wonderful birthday. Happy Birthday to your mom and thanks for sharing this build. Great work! +1

Why not the ITX version of the case?

Thanks for the question. :) The case was actually handpicked by my mother some months before. I basically built around it.

Apologies for the incomplete pictures. Never got a chance to snap a picture in her home office. Will upload photos as they become available.

Was the 1050 really necessary for light gaming? I mean power is power but i hate to see it go to waste.

Believe me, it's not going to waste. :-) Games she plays run perfectly, and since the motherboard didn't appear to be HDMI 2.0 compatible or have a Displayport port, this was the best solution I could find to make sure she was getting the resolution for her monitor. Probably should've seen if I could've found another motherboard, but no harm, no foul.

She did say she wanted it to last as long as that laptop did. :-)
