BoyScout Dec. 20, 2017

Update: The Live Stream is over. Thanks to all who joined in the fun. If you missed it, you can still watch the build in it's entirety on Twitch or a bit shorter version on YouTube.

Original Post:

Join us for our next live build on Twitch.tv today (December 20th) at 2 PM CST! We'll be building with MSI's top of the line Z370 Godlike Gaming motherboard in the brand new Fractal Design Define R6.

We'll be using multiple radiators in the case, starting with Fractal Design's Celsius S36 CPU Cooler and also trying out MSI's watercooled Seahawk GTX 1080 Ti video card.

And because we simply cannot resist adding more RGB, we'll also be checking out Corsair's Vengeance RGB memory and ML120 PRO RGB fans with the Lighting Node PRO controller.

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant

lol ive been waiting forever for the r6 to come out.

DPRutledge 1 Build 2 points 16 months ago

Awwwww. I wish we could see the team do a good budget build live.

BoyScout staff submitter 21 Builds 1 point 16 months ago

It's been a while, so we're probably due to revisit a budget build for a livestream, but we did one earlier this year if you need a fix sooner. :)

DPRutledge 1 Build 1 point 16 months ago

I enjoyed this one :-D

Awesome -- thanks for watching!

Finally! A december live build!

BoyScout staff submitter 21 Builds 1 point 16 months ago

The ever elusive December live stream has now come and gone.. Hope you were able to catch it! :)

Im so excited to see a fully custom closed loop cooling system in one of these

cactusguy 1 point 15 months ago

I don't think custom applies to this build.

IncognitoGamer123 1 point 16 months ago

I saw someone review this case and personally It's not one I'd get. But Love the parts!

7nationarmy 1 Build 1 point 16 months ago

Nice build!

Now my body is so ready for a Nano S refresh. I'd like to see better support for 2.5 slot cards, modular PSU shroud and TG. Fractal pls

402PrimeTime 1 Build 1 point 16 months ago

where can I pick this case up? cannot find anywhere on the web in U.S.

BoyScout staff submitter 21 Builds 1 point 16 months ago

We expected them to be available at launch, so we asked Fractal and they assured us they are heading to retailers and should show up soon. When it pops up somewhere it should show up in our listings pretty quickly.

I've been waiting a long time for the r6.

CMDR_CEITIN 1 point 16 months ago

Nice build. Will probably build one like it in this case in the coming years.

Velcade 3 Builds 1 point 15 months ago

Love the case. I wish they would have offered a silver or white front for the white case.

That cooler is a beast.

miknutty 1 point 15 months ago

This is amazing. Doing this exact build with a few mods. Thank you

What is the issue with getting these in the US? Newegg initially had a release date of late January and now all of a sudden it's March? Did their factory burn down what is going on?

SirHalpin 1 Build 1 point 12 months ago

they had issues manufacturing them. My build is happily housed in a Black w/TG Window R6 as of a month ago

krfuge 1 point 14 months ago

I live in a very dusty city. I am not crazy about having the CPU radiator on top. Would it be possible to mount the CPU radiator on the bottom and if so, would it require a different model radiator (from a different manufacturer?) and then would it be possible to have the graphics card radiator exhaust somewhere else or is there room to have the graphics card exhaust out the bottom simultaneously?

BoyScout staff submitter 21 Builds 1 point 14 months ago

The bottom of the case can technically accommodate a 240mm radiator for the CPU (down where we put the 120mm radiator for the GPU). Though you'll need to keep an eye on your PSU's length to avoid cables not fitting against the end of the radiator. You'll also need to make sure you're tubing can reach from the CPU to the bottom. I'm not sure off hand if Fractal's Celsius S24 (or any) 240mm AIO radiators could reach that far without a bit of testing. It might take a custom loop to make that work.

My father gave me a small loan of 3404.89 dollars

Tragiik_Jalix 1 point 9 months ago

Very interesting

Grumpyscomputer 1 point 8 months ago

how did you get your hands on that motherboard? i would like to know because i am doing a simular build

SamaHD 0 points 15 months ago

sad because mobo is more expensive than motherboard

The Define R6 is being marketed towards a different crowd, of which you don't seem to fall in to. For you, the Define S has all you need. For me, the R6 has many features I find desirable. Its all personal preference really.

The fan hub is PWM, yes. I prefer cases with an abundance of HDD bays because I'm too cheap to shell out the cash for a proper NAS bay (included HDD bays vs. $500 4 bay NAS). I also still take advantage of optical media (not as much as I used to, but usually once or twice every few days).

BoyScout staff submitter 21 Builds 1 point 16 months ago

From the specs they provided, it looks like it can control 3 PWM fans (plus 6 case fans) based on a single PWM motherboard header. So yeah, sounds like for PWM control past the first 3, you'll need additional headers.
