Fairly bread and butter build.

  • The i5-6500 is a good all-rounder CPU.
  • The Z170 chipset allows overclocking at a later point.
  • Having a dedicated SSD for the OS and applications improves performance very noticeably.
  • The R9 390 pulls ahead of its nVidia competitors at the same price point.
  • Good case with good cable management.
  • The PSU is a good brand and is reasonably well-received even by strenuous teardowns.

Replace the 6500 with the 6400, and overclock it

Eh. It's not going to save that much money in this case, so I just figured the 6500 would be fine.

650w g2 is cheaper, good apart from that. +1

Yea, but it's money saved either way.

For £4 less, you could have gotten a better PSU, in terms of componenents, with the same 650W you need for the 390. The PSU I am talking about is the EVGA SuperNOVA G2 ( https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/part/evga-power-supply-220g20650y1 ). Other than that, this is very good list.

no nex, no caviar blue, to expensive a mobo for no oc'in. - no offense ;) - spoken from experience.

I forgot the memory anyway. I swapped the NEX on the adjusted build, but I've never had issues with WD Caviar Blues before. I also don't really see why one can't get an expensive motherboard and then OC the CPU later when they feel like it later.

Made an error with the first post; I left out the memory. Revised parts list accounting for that.
