http://pcpartpicker.com/list/gCHVcc as the title says he wants to move from his amd a4 laptop to a desktop, he wants it to be red so this is what I chose. I went amd because it is cheaper even tho i wish I could have done intel. (the intel one I made was 1000 and we do not have that much to spend) I went with the big cooler in hopes that it will be quiet and keep things cool.

Don't spend that much on an RX-470. Also don't spend that much on a case or cooler. If you cut on all of those things, it should reduce your cost by about $140-$160. I don't want to decide on a case for you, but I'd get the 212 Evo for the cooler. as for the video card, don't spend more than $180 on an RX-470, otherwise get an RX-480.

The FX 6300 is of terrible value, its out done by the i3 6100 and is worse than AMD own 860K/880K/845K. Zero pointing in buying a CPU cooler that costs as much as the CPU itself. The PSU isn't good. You don't need 16GB of RAM. Also WAY too much for that GPU. Also this is about $87 over budget. PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant

what is your opinion on changing the mobo and getting a cooler? he wants it to be relative quiet (quieter than a jet engine like on his pc)

If you are going to change motherboards and plan on spending more I wouldn't settle for anything but a Z170 since anything that costs more that isn't a Z170 motherboard is going to be very hard to recommend, this motherboard imo is pushing it as it is. The i5 comes with a stock cooler, its not the best but it gets the job done. If you want something quieter I would go for a aftermarket cooler.

I would get an i5-6500 with a B150 motherboard and an RX480 8G from MSI with a better suited PSU.

This is cheaper than your build and will perform better to be honest.

Never spend that much on a 480. If you're going to spend that much, get a 1060.

I am not really sold on the super small compact 1060 quite yet to be honest.

Also, at 1080p, there will be no difference in performance to be honest.

I wanted a card that would not be too loud in 1080p (arma, thehunter etc) and had decent temps (around 60 peak) so if thats the 1060 ill try and budget it if not ill stick to the 480. he will prob never upgrade to 2k or 4k until this card is very old.

Both the 480 and the 1060 can go beyond 1080p 60fps so neither of these will have any issues.

As for the noise and temps, this will vary based on the cooler the various manufacturer uses but due to the low stocks at the moment, theyre being sold at a premium cost.

Arma 3 though is mroe CPU bound and unless you reduce the graphics a bit, you may have problems reaching stable 60fps without a much stronger/faster CPU

ya on medium i get 60 (gtx 960) Im hoping he can get a mixture of high and medium. and thanks for the info about the noise and temps.

With a locked CPU that cannot be overclocked, the stock cooler is fine.
