Already have RAM... what should I do.

Planning a build, was pretty much settled on Ryzen 5 1600 but recently I've been reading about RAM and its effect on performance.

I bought RAM a while ago when I found a 16GB kit at a really good price. It's 4x4GB at 2400MHz CAS 16.

I don't really want to spend any more money on RAM. But I would consider it if it would make a big difference to performance. The other option of course is to go for Intel instead of Ryzen now I have this RAM.

Opinions/advice would be appreciated! Thanks in advance!

I don't know how far you could take them, but I would attempt to OC them to around 2800MHz. Not necessary by any means, but definitely helpful in gaming.

I will definitely at least try oc'ing them! Hopefully it goes well!

Thanks for getting back to me!

Modules are Crucial Ballistix Sport LT.not sure of the model number as I am at work at present.

But what you are basically conlcuding, is that even though they are quite low frequency, Ryzen will still workout better than Intel performance wise?

Of course it does! If I am comparing to the i5 7600k? I can't imagine I will get into overvcloxking seriously but enough to twiddle a little with the settings.

I see, well I don't think I would get serious enough into oc'ing to get the i5 running that fast, so Ryzen is still probably better.

Also, I don't know, but i'm guessing the differences we are talking here would be minimal anyways, so nothing to stress about :).

Unfortunately it appears coffee lake for desktops won't be coming out in October. Rather, a refresh of the current series will be coming out (most likely October 5th or 10th)
