Just had this come up on my Google newsstand: https://www.cnbc.com/2017/09/20/tesla-building-an-ai-chip-for-its-cars-with-amd-globalfoundries.html

Interesting! Do you think this will have any impact on the PC market in any way?

It's nice to see a big, well known company using AMD rather than Intel!

Yes in the sense that it will give AMD revenue to re-invest into R&D, since they still aren't a profitable company despite Ryzen sales.

I think its definitely good, but its still nothing too major for the gaming industry, as nVidia has all of these automotive partners to get revenue from.

Wow, I had no idea they weren't profitable at present!

Also had no idea nVidia had all of those partners! :O

It will be interesting to see if there is any social effect too. People buying AMD as they know that's what Tesla uses. Sounds basic and stupid but I feel this is sometimes the way the average consumer thinks!

Tesla is just another customer. People don't buy GeForce just because most movies are rendered on Quadros, or because scientists study the human genome on nVidia P100 powered supercomputers. They care about products in the consumer market.

Another revenue stream for AMD is a good thing.
