Can i shove an SSD in my laptop?

So i have a run-of-the-mill HP notebook (X7T78UA#ABA) and it runs like molasses, i know it could possibly be the APU, but the hard drive doesnt help. I'm in the process of switching to a desktop, but due to the fact i cant find a job and i have the GPU, CPU, and RAM left to get, i'm stuck with a laptop and spare half assembled parts. Can i take my SSD and replace the disk drive in my laptop with it (Its the wd blue 250gb ssd) Any info would be great because my disk usage is at 100% while idle and its really frustrating. Thanks!

You could. It would be a (relatively) simple conversion.

Make sure to transfer the OS, and yes.

I wouldn't jump into it straight away. Read the manuals first!

The WD Blue SSDs are 7 mm thick, which is good. The HDD you have might be 7 mm or 9.5 mm thick. So the 7 mm thick WD Blue SSD should be all right, but a different SSD that is thicker might not fit.

So before you'd buy anything, I'd suggest taking the old disk out and measuring its thickness. If it's 7 mm, you have to stick to a 7 mm SSD, just like your originally planned WD Blue SSD. If it is 9.5 mm, any (thinner and thicker) SSD should fit all right.

Update: this page says, you'd need a thinner 7 mm drive (what you originally planned).
