Hackintosh for 4K Video Editing

Anyone have opinions on this build for a hackintosh? Went with intel/amd for graphics as they seem to be recommended by the hackintosh community. Any potential issues?

First your not going to be doing much 4K footage with just 500GB of storage. You also need to go back to their forums to check your build their very specific parts that need to be used mainly the motherboard for driver support. 16GB of memory is very low for 4K rendering.

Thanks for the input! Yes I have an external usb3.0 ssd I use so the 500gb is just for system drive/local files as needed. I’m starting to wonder if hackintosh is on the way out with apple moving to their own chips supposedly. I can work in windows but I prefer the Mac OS

I don't believe we can help you with the subject of a Hackintosh build, as it implies the intended use of software in a manner that it is not licensed for. It's akin to advocating software piracy.

Thanks. Well disregard the hackintosh part and how does that look for 4K Video Editing assuming I use my own external sad?

I would not advise using USB connected storage for a video editing workflow.

Use USB drives for backup/storage/archive/off-site/moving data around, etc... Edit on drives connect directly to the system by SATA/SAS/PCIE.

If you decide to go Windows... Consider a Z390 w/9900K or if budget is a concern, A 2700X build is worth consideration.

$5 more buys a way better heatsink.

32GB RAM for workstation like this is a good idea.

Motherboard with better power delivery for the CPU and better IO for a video editing workstation.

Appropriate multi-layer of storage solutions for video editing (software/OS drive, editing drive, archive/footage drive).

Better value RX580.

Case with better layout for video editing workstation (more room for drives/IO etc).

nicer PSU.

Lol, I got in trouble for supporting the use of unactivated Windows 10.

I do a lot of videos editing in 2k. My machine is designed for video editing. So maybe I can help.

I do a lot of video games editing in 2k. Weekly i spend upto or over 1tb editing my gaming videos in 2k. If you're editing the same level as i am in 4k expect over 1tb. If you're doing the same level of video editing activities I highly suggest you get muiliple ssd and hdd. Otherwise your video editing machine listed is fine.

My machine is all hot swap, meaning i can take out or install hdd/ssd without opening up my machine. Currently I have 9 Hdd/ssd install in my computer. I used a lot of hdd to achieve and backup my gaming videos. My ssd is used to record and edit my gaming videos. It is not in raid tho. It in jbod configuration.

Ssd will wears out depending on your ssd and how much data you're moving. I find 3d nand wear out faster than mlc nand but I don't think that's a problem. When it wore out buy a new ssd. The bigger the ssd storage the more endurance you have. With that said if you're actively video editing 4k videos don't be surprised if you are using 50tb or more on your ssd annually. Advantage user use 10tb or less on their ssd in the ssd life time.
