This is a really awesome opportunity that MSI has started here and so I decided to create the ultimate gaming build that I would want that crushes 1440p and gets me into some 4k resolution as well while still staying under the $2000 limit (barely). The build theme is a cool black and white color scheme that I have always dreamed of.
Cpu: Since I don't really have any interest in video editing or anything like that, the i5-6600k is perfectly fine for my needs. I get close to the same gaming performance that an i7 gives while saving $150 which goes towards more gpu power. The k on the end means I should get a little extra juice out of it when overclocking. Overall this is a great processor that suits my needs very well.
Cooler: So I couldn't find the old version of this cooler anymore on PCPP so I went with this one that still fits the color scheme and should give some good cooling power for a bit of an overclock on the i5. The leds on this thing look awesome as well.
Motherboard: The obvious choice for a black and white build, the krait motherboards look great, and after using two msi motherboards in builds before I have complete confidence in their ability to work. With 6 usb 3.1 ports and 3 pcie x16 slots this motherboard it awesome, and the m.2 slot is a great addition as well that could be used later.
Memory: G.Skill is pretty well recognized as a reputable brand for ram, so compatibility shouldn't be a problem. The speed is for sure a bit lower than others out there because it is more budget oriented, but more speed doesn't actually get you a huge amount of extra gaming performance anyway so I think this kit suits my needs perfectly.
Storage: Just a stock 1tb drive from my go to manufacturer. I have used 3 Seagate drives so far and all have held up great and they provide a good amount of storage to hold the games I would want to play. Speed is nothing like an SSD, but even with my current 7200rpm drive load times are not bad, so I am perfectly willing to save some money for another graphics card.
Video Card: Here is the fun part of this build. There is really no need ever for spending the extra $300 for a titan x over a 980ti because the reduced memory really doesn't effect anything at all. Dual 980ti cards for great gaming performance in anything that isn't Arkham Knight, what more could I ask for? Oh and surprise, these are black and white too (!!!) fitting perfectly with the krait motherboard.
Case: The looks of this case are awesome, and I love the basic fan controller that is included. Would love to see the double 980TIs through that side window...
Power Supply: Needed enough power to run two 980TIs, so this was about my only option when it came to something that wouldn't blow up in my face. Thankfully it is made by EVGA who tend to make great supplies so I have no doubt that this would be up to the task.
Thanks everyone for reading, leave a comment if you think its decent or if you think my idea sucks, and I hope I can get an up vote or two along the way :p
