Lol how about now? you're making $550 a month and paying ~$80 for electricity? It's just like the gold boom; the people getting rich are the ones who sell to the miners, not the actual miners.

Yeah, you have a point with the looks. Now that you mention it, I do like corsair ram a little better. I hardly see my sticks anymore after I went from a 12s to a d14 heatsink. Either way, I'm running all 32GB of my memory at 2133, good enough for me!

Is your spacebar angled towards you? In the pictures it looks like you have a more ergonomic spacebar than standard... maybe I am seeing things.

I have the same motherboard. Nothing wrong with G.Skill memory, man. I think the black looks a lot better than my red.

Simple, solid build. Most builds only get attention when they have huge emphasis on looks rather than performance.

Wish people cared more about performance.

Sorry for getting to you so late. No, there's no real problem with the D14 and the P400. Only thing I didn't like about the cooler was it covers all 4 sticks of ram, so you can't see them.

The only thing that can touch the side panel are the fans on the heatsink. Easily to slide them to the right position. Initially, I had the 12s on my CPU, that one fit absolutely no problem.

Thanks man! I spent months planning it out. The only red LEDs I can make softer are the ones in my GPU. I haven't figured out how to change my case lighting outside of cycling through different colors with a button on the case.

I think I will buy some cables from cable mod in the future. The cable management in the back of the case is decent I think. I didn't put a picture up of it, because it wasn't great either. There was so much excess cable, so all I could do was shove it in behind the PSU. I am just glad everything works though :1

If you already have a 980ti then it might be better to just sli another one. Time it so that you can get for less than $550! Otherwise just get a 1080 for around $650. Orr just leave the 980ti and wait for the 1100 series? I would wait for next year, the 980 ti should be okay for 2 years, unless you just HAVE to have the newest stuff.

Looks good!

Very nice build. Very solid all the way around. I building something very similar to this. I am happy to see that gaming mouse pad. I saw it on amazon and I really liked the reviews. I am going to be buying a couple wrist rests along with that mouse pad. Seeing it here as solidified my decision.

I have really been wondering about that monitor. I am sure it is very nice, but I feel that too many games and even youtube don’t utilize 21:9. But then in the same breathe, the world is getting ready for 21:9 so it may be the right time to invest.

After all, monitors are something you will have for much longer than most pieces of hardware, in my opinion.

This is a really nice build. How do you like that monitor and its 21:9 aspect ratio? Does your 1080 struggle with it at all? When can you not utilize 21:9? I am considering this monitor, but I am afraid the world is not ready for 21:9.

I am really just looking to replace my iMac, hah. I am not a heavy gamer now, but I can see myself enjoying some racing games and other titles in the future.

Also, the i7 is there because I was originally looking to buy an i5 6600k, but I decided on a locked i7 with no cooler and a cheaper board.

The optical drive is just there, because I will need it once a year and I have not found a good external for the same price.

If you had to change one or two things, what would it be?

Let’s hope I can put it together. Ive been spending months looking up things and reading reviews waiting on the GPU market.

Right? Oh okay, thanks man! It’s good to know about the thermal paste, I would have never guessed the cpu came with a tube.

I’ve changed out my mother board to a bigger version of the same one for $140 @ micro center for $5 less. I swapped cases to that $99 Phanteks one for $10 less. And then I went from the U12S cooler to the D15S for $18 dollars more. W/o the thermal paste my build is now $3.5 cheaper overall.

Oh and I actually stopped by a Micro center today and looked at monitors. I don’t see that much of a difference from an IPS vs a TN panel and I don’t think it will affect me for what I am going to be doing. So, I swapped monsters to a 144hz free sync 2k monitor rather than a 60hz ips one, saving another $30.

Here is what it looks like now: http://pcpartpicker.com/list/YJx7Yr

Thanks for being the only one to show interest.

I just don’t want to order parts from all over the place and pay their shipping. How much do you think I should spend on a PSU for it to be up to par to the rest of the build?

Comment reply on Forum Topic "Noob first build, help"

I’ve thought about that. I really don’t need a lot of storage becasue I’m fairly loyal to games. I’ll probably only have starcraft, sims, and 1 racing game and one FPS at a time if even that many games on my system at once.

Another thing is a few months ago I bought a mammoth usb memory stick that can double as a HDD.

Another another thing, haha, if I need more HHD space I could just buy another TB for like $55 and pop it in, no?

I have a question about that. Let’s say my system only requires 100w and then lets say I buy a 1000w PSU. Would that be safe/workable? I keep hearing suggestions for PSU that are well over enough for the system, does it matte how much over the PSU is?

Also, the whole modular thing. Whats the difference between fully and semi, if you don’t mind

Because with that logic I might as well get a platinum g2 1000 watt and then be happy for ten years, no?

Gotta love politics. Surly, the leaders shouldn’t de disqualified, however I find it funny how many times they have sent/commented their build link to the public/individuals across the internet.

I suppose it does count as hard work, but nonetheless, I think it is hilarious how politically enmeshed any medium of voting becomes.

It’s unrelated to the competition and could, potentially, be my first custom computer, ever! I’m going to pick up a i5 6600k and a r9 380 from a local Micro Center and build off of that.

Do heatsinks affect performance? So maybe anther 5-10 bucks?

I read that I would want RAM sticks that aren’t too tall or they would get in the way of the cpu cooler.

Thanks you for the approved stamp!
