Just wondering, what software do you use to control the LEDs on those fans? I'm looking to buy them, but since it'll be my first experience with RGB fans, I'm not sure how they're controlled.

Comment reply on kinuai's Completed Build: First PC in Almost a Decade

Here's what I do with the fan curve: I use the software to move the RPM to be around the same as the temperature. So, when the card is at 50 C, keep the RPM around 50% and so forth, it really helps. I, personally, have a G1 Gaming 960 which stays around 63 under load, but that simple change in fan code doesn't get it above 55 C. That card also doesn't get loud so I don't notice any noise increase.

I'm not too sure about acoustics or cooling performance on PowerColor cards, but considering that it's a modern card, I assume it's still good.

I agree that the monitors will give you neck pains (like some of the other comments), but did anyone notice the speaker system? You're not making much use out of a 5.1 surround* sound system there...

Maybe a few more pictures and I think I smell a feature :-).

I barely fit all the cables!

Show us the back!

Might change the monitor for a 1440p g-sync soon and a M.2 boot drive.

In my opinion (well, at least depending on which one you buy) an M.2 drive is too expensive for just a boot drive. It would be worth it if you put some other programs/games in it. I say that because I have a Western Digital Black HDD and my PC literally boots in less than 10 seconds; it's on in the time it takes for my monitor to turn on.

Overall, very nice build. That CPU cooler is so nice!

hope you get featured!

Just because it's a "budget" build doesn't necessarily mean it has to be cheap. $2000 was his budget, meaning how much he had available to spend.

no worries, it's always confused with "cheap."

Comment reply on henrychan's Completed Build: INWIN 850 Build Update

  • 1 point

The m.2 port is slooooow. It is not going through the PCIe interface but rather through the Chipset. That locks the speed of my SSD to around 10Gbps. So to solve it, I had bought a M.2 to PCIE card to force it to go through the PCIe interface. Problem solved.

This is why it's always important to read the manual first. According to the manual for this motherboard, the M.2 port is a 10 Gbps port unless used with a PCIe adapter to put it into the slot. Hope you learned from this; always a lesson for next time!

On a real though, since when is 10 Gbps "sooooooo" slow? Lol. First world problems, huh?

That's strange. Usually it's every other RAM slot that the sticks go into. It's almost never right next to each other. I would say that it's an issue with the motherboard. If you've registered your motherboard and have a warranty, take a look at getting it replaced if you can.

Due to past concerns about overheating issues on the 1080 FTW, how is it treating you now? I know that they've been addressed, but I think that came at the cost of an update which increased fan RPM.

Is the card loud? How are the temps? I think it was the VRMs that weren't being cooled.

Even tried upda

Too tired to finish the sente? Lo.

Anyways, did you say you tried putting the RAM in the 1st and 3rd slots, then the 2nd and 4th? If that didn't work, I don't know what to say. But if you didn't do that, put them in the 2nd and 4th slot (counting away from the CPU) and try; if that doesn't work, try the 1st and 3rd.
