Does a DAC or amp provide better quality when compared to each other? Is there one you recommend over another (DAC, amp, speakers or a combination)?
How do you like the lighting on that board?
Just bought myself an 850 EVO 1TB a few ours ago, LOVE IT! How do you like yours?
I was going off the fact that on a YT video a single 1080 can almost double 980 performance and 2 1080s will assumingly at least double if not more a single 980 (depending on scaling). The build I have a list for and am planning will be a several year project and by the time it gets built there will be multiple new top dog cards that will do an even better job at this res.
It's 7680x1440, not x4320
I think games support it but it won't show until you actually have that resolution plugged in and ready to use.
Triple 1440p is 1.3x 4K so I guess you could just divide the 4K benchmarks by 2/3.
I am wanting to build a computer much the same as yours and I was wondering how long it took you to get the money to build this monstrosity?
You are right those RAM fans are sick. About the fans, push pull, push, and pull offer very little difference in performance and can save you a bit of money.
Video about rad fan config performance:
The usefulness of fans drops off a cliff past 4-5 of them on the chassis and it is easier to coordinate fewer fans. I currently have 3 on my 760T pushing out, and 3 pulling air in (bigger fans) and the temps will not get lower (I tested by removing one fan and put it back in after seeing no temp difference because I can lol). But the decision is not up to me and if you want a **** ton of fans go for it, but if it were me I'd maybe cut back on them just a bit.
Video on number of cases fans:
I highly recommend the channel from which these videos came if you ever need computer help, they have a video on EVERYTHING, if you didn't already know about it, Linus Tech Tips
That actually is a really good idea, thank you, I will change that ASAP!
IMO It looks pretty cool and when you get it built I would love to see pictures but I am wondering why you are planning on buying so many SP fans, you only really need 3 for the rad but why the others? I would assume a few are case fans but still you have quiet a few. Also, the RAM is rather pricey, I totally get wanting that RAM for the bragging rights and imo it looks really sick but for 500$ you might be able to pick another kit that's cheaper plus put a little money into another area. G-Skill has some cool red RAM kits that are relatively cheap (as DDR4 goes) if you want to go a bit cheaper, but if you wish for the Corsair Dominator Platinum name in your system (which is awesome) then go right ahead. But it wont preform much better for about 2.2x the price of another RAM kit at say 3000 MHz.
Why so many fans?
Why Dominator Platinum?
Thank you for the help, I will be following your advice and waiting to see if the audio is lackluster and then making an improvement.
Thank you for the help!
I just looked and the 15s are 73 ohm impedance
My current board sound is good (its some random Dell one from a prebuilt) so I would guess sound from a 330$ board will be better especially when hooked to better speakers than some random GE ones I have.
here is the link to the website, down a ways it says "Impedance. Not specified, probably very high since these have their own internal amplifier."
I gotta give you and your dad credit, that desk is pretty kick ***. I hope to do what you did one day. I am just about as old and have a job as well, I hope to be able to build my dream PC as well one day. It is nice to see what some people have done in a similar situation, cool to know that it is possible if you save enough to build your wildest dream.
I will be waiting awhile to upgrade for sure, the 1080Ti will only be more expensive than the already pricey 1080. I plan on doing triple 1440p if I can so depending on how far they can push Pascal then a single might be all I need.
I am perfectly content with my current setup, by waiting for the 1080Ti do you mean wait for it, then SLI it or just buy a single depending on how it compares to only a 1080?
The minimal bezels, IPS panel and EXTREMELY low price compared to other 1440p monitors makes it ideal for multi monitor as it wont cost and arm and a leg. Maybe just an arm
I am looking at the Acer G257HU smidpx
Oh sorry, I was talking about the monitors I was looking at, they are IPS, thus will have good colors (or so I am told)
If I may also ask another question, why did you go for a quad monitor setup and not the more standard 3?
I have 2 questions;
How did you get one picture on each screen?
Would you ever go from 3 panels to one ultrawide? I have 3 right now and flying flight sims is unreal, it is so immersing. The higher resolution, curve and refresh rate of a monitor like the LG 34UC88-B is very enticing and the screensplit software looks AMAZING, would it be worth it for you, honestly I wouldn't want to lose the insane FOV of 3 screens and the screen real estate you get with such a setup.
Thank you very much for the help!
So a 6700K with SLI, the motherboard i mentioned, an M.2 drive and a SATA SSD will work just fine?
Samsung 950 Pro 512GB
Of course, not all bragging rights, but was it worth the money to have that beast of a machine that will be great for many many years?
Was all that money worth the bragging rights and godly performance? I plan on doing something similar, my PC is pretty good right now (MSI 980 and i7 4790) but eventually I want to do what you and many others have done, get a bunch of money together and drop it on a kickass PC both inside and out. But I gotta know, is it worth it?
Why not just put all games and apps you can on M.2?
What do you have on your M.2 Drive? Do you advise putting all games on ssd?
How is the 950 Pro compared to the SSD? For my next build in a few years I want to get fast storage to compliment an HDD, I can't decide on 512GB M.2 or 1TB SSD, any suggestions? Also, how is the Samsung monitor, it looks awesome.
my 980 (MSI) does triple 1080,high settings at about 30-40, 3440x1440 is less than 5760x1080 in terms of pixels, your 980Ti will be fine, trust me
A friend of mine wishes to do lighting on his desk very much like you have done, except he wants to have it go underneath the desk as well. What did you use for the lighting and how did you keep them on the edge of the desk without falling off?
Thank you for the info, I will hopefully grab a 950 Pro 256 GB for my new build this summer. Lets hope the install goes smoothly
I plan on upgrading my PC over the summer, I have an SSD on my parts list right now but M.2 seems awesome and will match perfectly with the aesthetic of the upcoming PC . Was it difficult getting your OS on the M.2 or did you just clone it over? I don't know how boot drives work, can you explain how you got your OS on the 950 Pro?
How was it getting the 950 Pro M.2 drive to work? Do you have your OS on it? Was it worth the hefty price tag? I've been thinking about getting one for my next build instead of a normal SSD.
I like Corsairs style of having the tubes go straight into the block, the tubes hanging off the block are eh to me. The Kraken (X61 I believe is the one you are referring to) does look pretty cool but Corsairs tubes just look better imo, I like the rigid look to them. I know the silver may not look the best in the red/black theme, but I am betting that will be a little less outstanding when the NZXT Hue+ does is thing with the lights. I'm looking at some builds with the 100i GTX and N450 and the silver does seem to be drowned out and made way less obvious with lighting by even a few LED fans, let alone LED strips like the Hue has.
How is that RAM? I am planning on buying 32GB of the G skill Ripjaws V RAM but at 2133 MHz in red.
Thank you so much for all the info!
Okay, thanks for the info!
The 100i V2 doesn't have the RGB lighting and I really wanted that for a good aesthetic. So I'm guessing the paste just gets applied after you peel something off and stick it to the CPU or how does pre applied paste work? I've never heard of pre applied paste before.
I am very curious as to how some pictures have the effect that yours do. I am pretty sure it was done in Photoshop, can someone explain how it was done? I know how to use Photoshop but I've never known how to construct this effect and it looks awesome. I would greatly appreciate if anybody could explain how this effect is made!
Question: How in the living hell did you get your CPU up to 5 GHz?!
I'm planning on using the NF-F12, I'm pretty sure its not the one that cranks up to 3K RPM , thank you for the help, it is much appreciated!
Thank you for the videos, I love the way he sums it up at the end, really helped a lot!
So if I just put two NFF12s above the rad either pulling up or pushing down, that would work better?
In your radiator, are the fans underneath the rad pulling and the top 2 pushing?
