If you plan to keep the motherboard I would recommend a i7-6700 used if possible. Wait till later this year when Intel launches cheaper motherboards for the I5-8400. Then consider that.

Great build, only thing would advise a case like Fractal Design - Focus G (White).

https://pcpartpicker.com/product/YhzZxr/fractal-design-focus-g-white-atx-mid-tower-case-fd-ca-focus-wt-w

It may be a little more but comes with 2 include fans.

You should check out reviews on the R3 1200. Here Tech Spot. It has productivity include.

https://www.techspot.com/review/1455-ryzen-3/

If you building this system it is advisable to OC.

Get the 1700 over the X model. They OC the same. Use the money on higher speed ram and try for 8 to 16GB. You will want around 3000mhz. Also do you have RX 570 available in your area if not try the GTX 1060 3gb.

Note that the BitFenix Nova case does not have greatest airflow.

I would advise Higher speed RAM around 3000MHZ. Also check motherboard website to see which Ram kits are supported.

Do plan your build for tasks other than just gaming? If so Ryzen R5-1600 would be excellent choice for Streaming and rendering work also. It you want Extremely high FPS (144hz) and above intel i7 would be better.

When OC on the Stock cooler the R3 1200 can really perform, would recommend checking out Ponchato and Hardware Unboxed performance review of it.

For the GPU a GTX 1070 is ideal for 1440p but with current prices the 1070 is close to the GTX 1080 prices. The 1080 maybe the better buy depending on where you plan to buy.

The R5-1600 is a better buy here. You don't really need the aftermarket cooler. Put in the GPU since prices are so high.

Nice build but have you considered the R5-1600 or any Ryzen chips?

If you intend to stream it would be a better choice.

Comment reply on Forum Topic "New Ryzen build thoughts?"

Good build. Research your mother board bios.

The stock cooler should be fine unless your good for a 4.0GHZ area OC.

I like the idea of the R3 1200 with GTX 1060, but will reserved judgment till we get reviews out.

Comment reply on Forum Topic "Opinions wanted - Newbie"

The issue with 3000MHZ vs 2666 MHZ RAM was mainly due to the motherboards bios not reaching the advertised speeds. Now with most bios have reached 2933MHZ and up.

Ryzen benefits from faster ram a lot. 3000MHZ to 3200MHZ is the current sweet spot.

Good build.

I recommend the R7 1700 over the X model if your are intending to OC as they both perform the same when overclocked.

You choices are pretty solid overall.
