What if I told you this 4% of 100,000 doesn’t make Sweden the best country in the world? If murder rates make someone the best, why are you even arguing for Sweden?

.

I’ll take this as a sign of my victory. Have a great day!

Those following the Scandinavia argument tend to suggest a bit of crime reduction and a supposedly better healthcare outweigh the Constitution, the world’s greatest military, and our endless and extensive innovation.

As tiny mentioned:

Murder rate in USA per 100,000: 5.3%
Murder rate in Sweden per 100,000: 1.1%

You treat an outdated piece of paper like it's the word of god. You're just grasping at straws to make sure america is #1. I'm out.

An insurmountable difference in values.

Which values? I'm curious now.

That I don’t want to live there because I appreciate American governmental systems. Continuing the logical train would suggest I wouldn’t want to live in the UK either, and that is true.

I mean our wack 2 party system is broken beyond belief but go on

I’ve never seen anyone take up the Nordic/Scandinavia argument and then come to any other opinion when opposed

Don't you think there's a reason why, then?

Not a fan of the Scandinavian healthcare system.

You.. you don't want low-cost healthcare that supersedes ours? wtf??

Sweden doesn’t have the American government systems.

Neither does the UK. What point are you trying to make?

Rights in countries other than America are typically laws, government given. The American rights are given by God.

Lol ok.

While we’re at it, the American military is the best in the world. I feel pretty safe with that.

Military funding has been sucked from other more important funds (notably education and healthcare) because the trump administration can't keep it's mouth shut. (I know that's not the actual reason and that this has been going on for a while now, but.. let's just say I don't feel the same level of security in this country that you do)

American crime rates are really only bad in the major cities. Moreover, some of these cities have reducing crime rates over time.

hmmm nah

By the way, it's ok that America isn't the best country on earth. It doesn't have to be, and that's fine.

What if you’re phone died at the bus stop? What happens if you don’t have internet access?

If my phone died I'd be more concerned with finding a solution to charge it than whipping out a copy of the constitution because last time I checked paper doesn't charge a phone.

On another note, has referencing the constitution at random suddenly gained importance in today's society? Please educate me.

Alright, look at it this way: basic wrapping paper for a few gifts only costs about $3 or $4. Who’s really interested in that stuff? It literally just gets thrown away at the earliest convenience; it’s not like one spends a great deal of time observing it.

I...

What even is this argument

Of course no one has interest in wrapping paper, it's literally designed to be a one-time use item and then discarded...

A Constitution, on the other hand, can be found for as little as $2 or $3, and a Constitution will at least be seen on passing glance or whenever he’s, maybe say, waiting at the bus stop.

Yeah ok, because people bring their copy of the constitution to the bus stop lol.

Sad isn’t it? I’ll never really understand why they have to go banning people. Especially comedic users.

I... wow... if you're trolling, just say it instead of leading people to believe you're serious. If a random twitter user were to act the way trump does, their account would be gone, and deservedly so, as it would go against their policies (which are lax as they are)

Mostly, yes. I also believe that everyone is entitled to a defense, and that joke was the best I could come up with. (kind of says a lot about what’s being defended, tbh)

Hm for a joke it wasn't funny to be honest. Not sure on that one.

They keep making this list harder to follow. I’m going to wake up one day to having people accuse politicians of being arachnophobic. I swear I’m even becoming deaf to these insults; it needs to just stop.

I'm like 99% sure you're just trolling at this point but I'll bite anyways... (CW: suicide mention)

It does not need to be stopped. People are being called out for being jackasses and ****** human beings, and deserve to be reprimanded for their behavior and the way they choose to act. Stop blindly defending nasty, toxic behavior by making a flippant and irrelevant statement. Being afraid of spiders doesn't affect policy and agenda at all. Being a ****** human being (e.g. being racist, xenophobic, homophobic, etc) does, and can drive people to risk their lives or even commit suicide.

Also... for the love of god, calling someone a xenophobe (or anything else on that list) is not an insult. They're words used to describe a person's views and actions, not to insult someone. It's really not that difficult to comprehend.

Ok, I'll bite. I'll probably get downvoted for this but here we go.

Oh, wow! Wouldn’t want a man to have a social media account!

Trump is nothing but a tool who harasses others. If he wasn't famous, Twitter probably would have removed his account long ago.

I’d argue that McDonalds is a fine example of an American meal. Why wouldn’t the American President want to show pride in his culture and country?

LMAO surely you're joking. Serving Burger King (or McDonalds, I remember it being Burger King but it really doesn't matter) to a winning team invited to the white house by the president is an embarrassment. Doing so says to the team members that Trump doesn't give a flying **** about a single one of them (He doesn't, but that's not the point). Even basic catering would have been a step up. You don't serve the team, or any white house guest for that matter, the fast food they could have just gone down the street to get.

I’d say maybe that’s fair. I don’t have enough information about it, but these do seem like things he might do.

There have been several recordings of his sexual harassment and assault. He is an all-around terrible human being, and is among other things misogynistic, homophobic, transphobic, racist, and xenophobic. He absolutely would and has done these things.

He cannot think clearly and does not deserve the position of power he has been given.

But hey, a good chunk of this country wanted him, and they got what they wanted, so what do I know? ¯_(ツ)_/¯

News is not a good indicator of what is really going on i like real data.

I agree that looking at data is better. You are correct.

-Like this "Severe weather US Hurricane Frequency Down 40% Since The 19th Century* https://stevengoddard.files.wordpress.com/2013/05/screenhunter_163-may-12-16-48.jpg and complete data https://www.aoml.noaa.gov/hrd/hurdat/All_U.S._Hurricanes.html

lol I'm supposed to believe this? Even if it were based on factual data (and let's assume it is for sake of discussion), it is laid out in a way that makes it meaningless.

and complete data https://www.aoml.noaa.gov/hrd/hurdat/All_U.S._Hurricanes.html

This is a much more reliable source. However, that being said... I'm not seeing the downward trend the other article suggests. It actually seems constant with expected fluctuations.

I also feel like this is kinda missing the point. I'm not suggesting the effects are immediate and have already begun taking place; rather that they will in the near future assuming no changes are made.

-Tornadoes : The link between tornadoes and climate change is currently unclear. Current data on tornadoes is inconsistent because measuring the presence of tornadoes relies on eyewitness accounts and aftermath damage assessments rather than quantifiable data. Additionally, it is difficult to identify long-term trends in tornado records, which only date back to the 1950s in the U.S., because the population in many areas affected by tornadoes has grown, contributing to increased eyewitness reports and greater property in harm’s way. Improved technology, such as advanced radar, also helps us “see” tornadoes that may not have been detected decades ago. https://www.c2es.org/content/tornadoes-and-climate-change/

Warm, humid air increases the risk of the formation of a tornado; "It is likely that a warmer, more humid world would allow for more frequent instability." That extra moisture (from, for example, an increase in ocean surface temperature caused by climate change) can lead to an increase in the amount of tornadoes as well as their strength. Source (in fairness this report is pretty old; but, I included it to show that this has been known for a while).

-Ocean levels are indeed rising but they have for 20000 years now. And ofcourse they will put cities under water since 40% of earths population lives near the water so this also causes more flooding.

May be true, but never like this. Glaciers are now melting because of climate change and drastically increasing sea level.

Fix the damage you say. Alright what is the ideal temperature on this planet and what is the ideal Co2 level?

I don't know. I'm not a scientist, and I don't track and review data. Since you seem curious, I suggest you look into it.

Comment reply on Forum Topic "Climate crisis??"

  • 1 point

Just asking why is climate changing bad?

Stop being ignorant and look at the news yourself. Severe weather (hurricanes, tornadoes, flooding) are expected to become more frequent and violent, and have already. Ocean levels are expected to rise and put entire cities underwater.

Since the industrial revolution the earth's temperature has been rising unprecedentedly quickly and is projected to rise more than ever before. We are the problem. We need to fix the damage we've done before it's too late.

Comment reply on Forum Topic "Climate crisis??"

Do you think there is a crisis?

No. I know there is.

Corporations and governments are doing nothing to stop it and some are even taking steps to make it worse. Big industrial corporations need to stop bullshitting, start being significantly less wasteful, and the media needs to start putting pressure on the corporations instead of pretending that the average individual is also largely to blame for the problem.

But it won't make corporations or the government money. So don't expect them to start taking any steps.

As for climate change deniers (sadly I am already seeing several in this thread), I hope they can learn to accept facts corroborated by meteorologists and scientists around the world. It is real, and if nothing changes, it's incredibly likely we'll be on a very harmful and destructive path

Sedans can haul lots of luggage as well, larger ones especially. A Camry, for example, will haul 3 people and their luggage home from the airport no problem. I'm not really sure where you're getting at with the "sedans are impractical" argument.

In an emergency (as in, in the unlikely event you can't borrow a friend's or relative's larger car, or rent something) Ikea offers a delivery service.

You still haven't answered my question: How did you determine that buying a sedan will lead to regret? You say this and yet haven't provided any evidence whatsoever.

Lol. That's not true at all. Sedans are quite practical. Not always as practical as a hatch or a wagon, but for most people they really are sufficient. Something like a Miata on the other hand is not practical.

Stop trolling. You've done this before with the Supra thread. You are clearly in no position to buy as it appears you haven't done even a minuscule amount of research on either car, and your vague and generic posts show it. Even just knowing what generation you're looking at can help you get answers, but you haven't told us, so...

Anyway, for sake of discussion, let's say you're serious about a GT-R and you can find one you're interested in to begin with (these are not common cars and you'd need to be willing to travel to test drive it).

Lol. You won't be getting any generation of the GT-R as a first car, unless you're either older and have a significant amount saved up, or mommy and daddy are pitching in big time. At a bare (and I mean bare) minimum you'll be looking at $30k+. Most of these cars are way above that. More desirable generations like the R34 will cost significantly more. Even a beat R34 will cost far more than a modded and beat R32 or R33. Older first or second gen Skylines will cost more due to their age rather than pure desirability.

Both the Supra and GT-R are desirable cars, and assuming you're 16 (or even younger), it's very unlikely one of these will be your first car.
