Description

my pc!

Heres my actual first desktop: https://pcpartpicker.com/user/chaseisthecoolest0722/saved/DXJ8Hx The build in this post was probably 2-6 months after (Didn't know about PCPP till then)

Part Reviews

CPU

great cpu, great performance, wish there were more cores but it is 8th gen.

CPU Cooler

good entry level aio, affordable, but probably would go something else next time

Thermal Compound

best non lc paste on the market!

Motherboard

board gets the job done, but be aware no wifi and aged rgb headers. does not like xmp...

Storage

wish there was more storage and was gen 4 but it is a good price

Storage

great performance (if i wasn't stuck on a gen 3 motherboard), but was a littly laggy at first because my windows installation was jacked. otherwise very good drive i dont seen replacing soon.

Storage

good 2tb drive, snagged for free almost unused

Video Card

great card, good (nvidia) price, however it would be nice if the 3060 ti had the 12gb of vram that the 3060 does, especially for 4k gaming. gigabyte's engine is kind of, janky, but its a very good card that hits high numbers even in ultra 4k settings.

Case

love this case, so fine to build in, but if it were the same price I'd just get the airflow or glass version, or like I did get glass panels.

Power Supply

I have a revision of this psu, that delivers more of a silver standard and overall looks nicer, not a bad purchase but if the price gap is small i would go rmx

Wireless Network Adapter

this thing was honestly such a pain in the *** to work with because of tp-links horrible driver support. Once it was working the download/upload speeds were obsurd, and took multiple driver reinstallations to get it right, but of course I reinstalled windows and you start over to this. Keep in mind that you honestly need an antenna stand because the antennas out the back of your case not only get bad reception, but BLOCK THE REAR IO... just get a board with built in wifi or something better. Dont forget that this cards wifi and bluetooth standard is old...

Keyboard

sounds a little funky, softwares a little funky, but its got good actuation and good material. wish there was more room between the key/used cherry profile.

Just wondering, why did you get the i7-8700? The 12700k and the 13600k around the same price and even cheaper?

Could have been the only things he's kept while upgrading

i have been upgrading the build, next upgrades spots were the monitor and psu, but i'm waiting to upgrade cpu, as I'm gonna have to get a new motherboard and ddr5 ram (def want a new gen setup), and who knows how 13 gen prices will change soon. Right now I'm on the path towards a g3223d, then a rmx 850watt, then the 12700k, rog z690 (maybe msi), gskill ddr5 (32gig low af first word), im considering buying another 980 pro for raid 0 performance (and i kind of want to do a clean install of windows, im very specific about my installs and the last one was super rushed in a panic as i got to confident in the disk manager.....). after that i think I'm just gonna follow where technology goes, maybe a 4070 or 4080 one day.

heres link of upgrade path: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/GT6Ynt

Had it around, im going 12700k, z690, ddr5 soon. Everything besides the monitor is kind of based for a system like that.

6 months later, got some new parts for the build (waiting for shipping) i was going to go with the 12700k but my friend offered me a 12700 that was taken out the box but never used in a computer for 40$ and a wall flag and I really couldnt turn it down.

got a good black friday deal on asus rog strix z690-e and im gonna be so happy to get rid of that old tp-link card. also got a corsair new rm850e (ik the capacitors are made in taiwan but rme is much newer and quieter then rmx plus slightly cheaper, really just want a 80+ gold)

after about 4 months of searching, comparing, i got a lg 32gp850-b (which besides being 4k 240hz is quite literally my dream monitor based on specs and features) and how happy i was to get rid of that tv with all the tearing and lag omg.

havent bought it yet but i do want to get g.skill trident Z5 neo 32 GB (2 x 16gbs) DDR5-6000 cl30 ram and also plan to replace the 980 1tb with anoither 2tb 980 pro as well as replacing my older wd black with a 3 new 2tb wd black hdds for a nas in raid 4 (not made of money so these things are gonna have to wait) (probably gonna raid 0 the 980 pros)

working with logitech s120s but i want to try to find some bowers&wilkins on ebay for ~100-150 like the MM-1's as well as a klipsch or rythmik woofer (2.1 budget audiophile type of sound rig)

might ask oh you got a non k cpu and a high end motherboard whats that about oh yeah well i can actually explain ima try to get a 13700k when the prices dip down (now gonna get a 14 series, its the same thing, and i dont want to go for the 15/16th gen sense intel is going to be using a new architecture)

hopefully it all works out! https://pcpartpicker.com/list/TbVMTY
