Description

This was a relatively budget build for my younger brother, he had a laptop with integrated graphics he was on before this so this was a major upgrade for him. The goals for this build included: budget of 700 or below, power efficiency, clean looks, and low noise. Some sacrifices had to be made to achieve some of this though, like a 16GB ram kit that a friend of mine let me use from his old build, as well as a cheap power supply from an old computer, but this build is fairly low power and this power supply has been running in the other computer for years so it should hold up until I'm able to get a new one for him. The CPU was purchased on AliExpress because you can get one of these for almost 50 bucks cheaper than on Amazon, which makes the 2 week or so wait worth it. The 4060 Ti was also bought used from Ebay, it's the same OEM variant I used in my personal rig that I got for a steal. This one wasn't as good of a price but was still better than some other options at this price point, I was considering getting the B580 but between the CPU overhead issues, availability, and power efficiency, I decided on the 4060 Ti. It's also pretty much silent and has pretty good temps despite that, although it would be nice to have more VRAM, my brother pretty much doesn't play any games that would require more than 8GB so it'll be fine. As far as the how the build went, there were no issues except for the fact I plugged the front panel connectors in reverse somehow, giving me a light heart attack when nothing happened after pressing the power button, but it was an easy fix once I did a test to power it on by just shorting the pins. I also used a random SSD heatsink for the main drive, I did have to use some pliers to make sure it wasn't close to touching the main Pcie slot on the motherboard though. It was my first time building in an actual PC case since my personal build is open air, so I spent some time trying to cable manage well and I'm pretty proud with how it turned out (ignoring that one rgb fan cable strung across the backplate access panel). My only complaints after the build are that the power supply fan is a bit noisy but other than that the build went pretty smoothly with very few issues.

Part Reviews

CPU

Still a great budget option for a CPU today, and can be upgraded to a 5700X3D down the line for some more gaming performance.

CPU Cooler

Great cooler, keeps an R5 5600 well below 60 in a Cinebench test, doesn't make much noise, and looks great. Can't really complain about anything.

Motherboard

This board does what it needs to do, bios is easy to navigate, has 2 m.2 slots, Wifi is included (although it does need drivers before it works so you'll need an ethernet connection or Wifi dongle beforehand), and decent rear IO. The vrm cooling is a little lack luster though but as long as you have good airflow in your case it should be fine. My only issue with it is that unless it is on sale for less than 100 bucks, than there are far better options to choose from than at it's normal price point.

Memory

Cheap kit of ram, does what it needs to do. Heatsink is just plastic though so not really doing a whole lot as far as cooling, just for show pretty much.

Storage

Great 1TB drive. Good read and write speeds, doesn't have any cache but it's not really to be expected of for a drive of this price.

Case

Very nice looking and relatively good build quality case for the price, has tons of room in the front for pretty much any part, the back also has a good bit of room for cable management, and it has pretty decent airflow. It doesn't come with any fans so you do have to supply your own. I only have 2 complaints, 1 being that the Pcie expansion slots aren't replaceable and just rip off from the chassis, the other would be that the back panel is a bit of a pain to put on since there is nothing holding it up, so you'll have to hold it in place when screwing it in. It does come with plastic thumb screws for both front and back panels as well as one on the Pcie lock so that's a nice touch.

Case Fan

Great fans, look very nice with the halo rgb ring, and make little noise when spinning at full speed.

Custom

Very nice cable extensions, they feel very well made and come with 2 different sets of cable combs which is nice. They do need a bit of work to get straight but it just takes a little time and definitely make the front of your build just that little bit better.
